Abstract

A method and apparatus for parallel processing of at least two bins relating to at least one of a video and an image. The method includes determining scan type of at least a portion of the at least one of video and an image, analyzing neighboring position of a bin, removing dependencies of context selection based on the scan type and position of location being encoded in a transform, and performing parallel processing of that least two bins.

Claims

What is claimed is:

         1 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by at least one processor, an image including a block, wherein the block includes a plurality of bins; selecting, by the at least one processor, a selected bin from the plurality of bins; determining, by the at least one processor, whether the selected bin is in a second column of the block from a left side; in response to determining that the selected bin is in the second column, removing, by the at least one processor, a context selection dependency directly at a left position from the selected bin; processing, by the at least one processor, the selected bin to generate a decoded image; and outputting, by the at least one processor, the decoded image.

         2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 dividing, by the at least one processor, the bins into a plurality of groups of N bins.

         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the dividing is based on a zig-zag scan order that includes each of the groups of N bins in a set of N contiguous bins along the zig-zag scan order; and N is an integer greater than 1.

         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein:
 the zig-zag scan is at least one of a reverse zig-zag scan, a forward zig-zag scan, a diagonal scan, a sub-block diagonal scan, a horizontal scan, or a vertical scan.

         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the processing is performed by a plurality of processors in parallel.

         6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, by the at least one processor, whether the selected bin is in a second row of the block from a top side; and in response to determining that the selected bin is in the second row, removing, by the at least one processor, a second context selection dependency directly at a top position above the selected bin.

         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the removing is performed using a mask.

         8 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing a program for execution by at least one processor of a plurality of parallel processors, the program including instructions for processing for image decoding, the instructions to:
 receive an image including a block, wherein the block includes a plurality of bins; select a selected bin from the plurality of bins; determine whether the selected bin is in a second column of the block from a left side; in response to determining that the selected bin is in the second column, remove a context selection dependency directly at a left position from the selected bin; process the selected bin to generate a decoded image; and output the decoded image.

         9 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 8 , further comprising instructions to:
 divide the bins into a plurality of groups of N bins.

         10 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein:
 the dividing is based on a zig-zag scan order that includes each of the groups of N bins in a set of N contiguous bins along the zig-zag scan order; and N is an integer greater than 1.

         11 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein:
 the zig-zag scan is at least one of a reverse zig-zag scan, a forward zig-zag scan, a diagonal scan, a sub-block diagonal scan, a horizontal scan, or a vertical scan.

         12 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 8 , wherein:
 the processing is performed by a plurality of processors in parallel.

         13 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 8 , further comprising instructions to:
 determine whether the selected bin is in a second row of the block from a top side; and in response to determining that the selected bin is in the second row, remove a second context selection dependency directly at a top position above the selected bin.

         14 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 8 , wherein:
 the removing is performed using a mask.

         15 . An apparatus comprising:
 a memory configured to store a plurality of bins of a block of an image; and parallel processors coupled to the memory, the parallel processors configured to:
 receive the plurality of bins;
 select a selected bin from the plurality of bins;
 determine whether the selected bin is in a second column of the block from a left side;
 in response to determining that the selected bin is in the second column, remove a context selection dependency directly at a left position from the selected bin;
 process the selected bin to generate a decoded image; and
 output the decoded image.
