Application session and enhancement for a wearable electronic device
Abstract
One embodiment provides for a wearable electronic device comprising a display device, a memory device, and one or more processors to execute instructions stored in the memory device. The instructions cause the one or more processors to receive an interaction to transition an application to a front-most state on the wearable electronic device, receive a request to initiate an activity via the application in the front-most state, detect that the wearable electronic device has transitioned to a low power mode, and enable enhanced functionality for the application in the front-most state during the low power mode while the application is in the front-most stat. Enabling enhanced functionality for the application in the front-most state includes, for example, increasing an execution priority of the application while the application is in the front most state.

21 . A method comprising:
detecting, by an electronic device, a wake event; and transitioning a display of the electronic device from a low power state to a higher power state, the transitioning comprising:
determining, by the electronic device, if an active session of a first application is executing on the electronic device;
in response to a determination that the active session of the first application is executing on the electronic device, displaying or updating a display of a user interface of the first application on the display of the electronic device; and
in response to a determination that the active session of the first application is not executing on the electronic device, displaying or updating a display of a default user interface on the display of the electronic device.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein in response to the determination that the active session of the first application is not executing on the electronic device further comprises:
determining if a persistent session of a second application is executing on the electronic device; in response to a determination that the persistent session of the second application is executing on the electronic device, displaying or updating a display of a user interface of the second application on the display of the electronic device; and in response to a determination that the persistent session of the second application is not executing on the electronic device, displaying or updating the display of the default user interface on the display of the electronic device.
23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein in response to the determination that the persistent session of the second application is executing on the electronic device further comprises:
determining if an idle timeout period for the persistent session of the second application has expired; and in response to a determination that the idle timeout period for the persistent session of the second application has expired:
foregoing the displaying or updating the display of the user interface of the second application on the display of the electronic device; and
displaying or updating the display of the default user interface on the display of the electronic device.
24 . The method of claim 23 , further comprising:
resetting a timer associated with the idle timeout period is reset responsive to an activation of the electronic device by a user.
25 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the idle timeout period is configurable on a per-application basis.
26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the default user interface displays or indicates a time of day.
27 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the transitioning further comprises:
increasing system resources that are available to the first application.
28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the active session corresponds to a user activity external to the electronic device.
29 . A device comprising:
a memory; and at least one processor configured to:
detect a wake event; and
transition a display of the device from a low power state to a higher power state, the transition comprising:
determine if an active session of a first application is executing on the device;
in response to a determination that the active session of the first application is executing on the device, display or update a display of a user interface of the first application on the display of the device; and
in response to a determination that the active session of the first application is not executing on the device, display or update a display of a default user interface on the display of the device.
30 . The device of claim 29 , wherein in response to the determination that the active session of the first application is not executing on the device further comprises:
determine if a persistent session of a second application is executing on the device; in response to a determination that the persistent session of the second application is executing on the device, display or update a display of a user interface of the second application on the display of the device; and in response to a determination that the persistent session of the second application is not executing on the device, display or update the display of the default user interface on the display of the device.
31 . The device of claim 30 , wherein in response to the determination that the persistent session of the second application is executing on the device further comprises:
determine if an idle timeout period for the persistent session of the second application has expired; and in response to a determination that the idle timeout period for the persistent session of the second application has expired:
forego the display or update of the display of the user interface of the second application on the display of the device; and
display or update the display of the default user interface on the display of the device.
32 . The device of claim 31 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:
reset a timer associated with the idle timeout period is reset responsive to an activation of the device by a user.
33 . The device of claim 31 , wherein the idle timeout period is configurable on a per-application basis.
34 . The device of claim 29 , wherein the default user interface displays or indicates a time of day.
35 . The device of claim 29 , wherein the transition further comprises:
increase system resources that are available to the first application.
36 . The device of claim 29 , wherein the active session corresponds to a user activity external to the device.
37 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
receiving an event for an application on an electronic device while a display of the electronic device is in a low power mode; determining whether the application is in a sleep state; in response to a determination that the application is not in the sleep state, provide an indication of the event to the application; and in response to a determination that the application is in the sleep state:
determining whether the application was assigned a high execution priority relative to any other applications executing on the electronic device;
in response to a determination that the application was assigned the high execution priority, wake the application and provide the indication of the event to the application; and
in response to a determination that the application was not assigned the high execution priority, provide the indication of the event to the application when the application is next awake.
38 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 37 , wherein the event comprises a notification event.
39 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 37 , wherein assignment of the high execution priority indicates that the application is executing on the electronic device in a front-most state.
