Method and apparatus for beam management
Abstract
Methods and apparatuses for high speed beam management. A method of operating a user equipment (UE) includes receiving configuration information for transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states; receiving configuration information for group TCI indices, wherein a group TCI index, m, of the group TCI indices is associated with a group of TCI states; receiving configuration information on which TCI states within the group of TCI states to apply to at least one of downlink channels and uplink channels; and receiving the group TCI index. The method further includes decoding a channel conveying the group TCI index; determining, at least based on the decoded group TCI index, one or more TCI states to apply to the at least one of downlink channels and uplink channels; and at least one of (i) receiving the downlink channels and (ii) transmitting the uplink channels using the determined one or more TCI states.

1 . A user equipment (UE) comprising:
a transceiver configured to:
receive configuration information for transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states,p
receive configuration information for a list of component carriers (CCs) associated with a same TCI state identifier (ID),
receive a medium access control-control element (MAC CE) command activating a subset of TCI codepoints corresponding to TCI states IDs, and
receive a downlink control information (DCI) format with a TCI codepoint; and
a processor operably connected to the transceiver, the processor configured to determine, at least based on the received TCI codepoint, one or more TCI states to apply to at least one of downlink (DL) channels and uplink (UL) channels per CC, wherein the transceiver is further configured to at least one of (i) receive the DL channels and (ii) transmit the UL channels using the determined one or more TCI states.
2 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein the list of CCs is configured by radio resource control (RRC) signaling.
3 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein the configuration information for TCI states is configured per CC per bandwidth part.
4 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein the configuration information for TCI states is common across a list of CCs and bandwidth parts.
5 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein the TCI codepoint indicates one of:
one or more DL TCI states for DL channels in a list of CCs, one or more UL TCI states for UL channels in a list of CCs, one or more joint TCI states for DL and UL channels in a list of CCs, and a pair of one or more DL TCI states for DL channels in a list of CCs and one or more UL TCI states for UL channels in a list of CCs.
6 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein, the DCI format is DCI format 1_1 or DCI format 1_2.
7 . A base station (BS) comprising:
a transceiver configured to:
transmit configuration information for transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states,
transmit configuration information for a list of component carriers (CCs) associated with a same TCI state identifier (ID), and
transmit a medium access control-control element (MAC CE) command activating a subset of TCI codepoints corresponding to TCI states IDs; and
a processor operably connected to the transceiver, the processor configured to determine, a TCI codepoint with one or more TCI states to apply to at least one of downlink (DL) channels and uplink (UL) channels per CC, wherein the transceiver is further configured to:
transmit a downlink control information (DCI) format with a TCI codepoint, and
at least one of (i) transmit the DL channels and (ii) receive the UL channels using the determined one or more TCI states.
8 . The BS of claim 7 , wherein the list of CCs is configured by radio resource control (RRC) signaling.
9 . The BS of claim 7 , wherein the configuration information for TCI states is configured per CC per bandwidth part.

12 . The BS of claim 7 , wherein, the DCI format is DCI format 1_1 or DCI format 1_2.
13 . A method comprising:
receiving configuration information for transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states; receiving configuration information for a list of component carriers (CCs) associated with a same TCI state identifier (ID); receiving a medium access control-control element (MAC CE) command activating a subset of TCI codepoints corresponding to TCI states IDs; receiving a downlink control information (DCI) format with a TCI codepoint; determining, at least based on the received TCI codepoint, one or more TCI states to apply to at least one of downlink (DL) channels and uplink (UL) channels per CC; and at least one of (i) receiving the DL channels and (ii) transmitting the UL channels using the determined one or more TCI states.
