Fitted bedding

Abstract

A fitted bed sheet corresponding in size and shape to a top surface of a mattress, the bed sheet having an upper peripheral edge, a lower peripheral edge disposed below the upper peripheral edge, a channel positioned about the lower peripheral edge, at least one adjustable elastic cord disposed within the channel, and one or more locking mechanisms associated with the adjustable elastic cord to secure the adjustable elastic cord at a selected length. A partially fitted bed sheet has two corners at a first end and an opening at a second end, the two corners having at least one elastic cord associated therewith and being configured to partially secure the bed sheet to a mattress. A blanket or comforter is partially fitted to a mattress with an elastic fabric component having an adjustable elastic cord disposed about a lower peripheral edge thereof.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A fitted bed sheet adapted to cover a mattress, comprising:
 a planar portion corresponding in size and shape to a top surface of the mattress, a perimeter of the planar portion defining an upper peripheral edge of the fitted bed sheet;   a lower peripheral edge disposed below the upper peripheral edge;   a plurality of sides separating the upper peripheral edge from the lower peripheral edge; and   at least one adjustable cord disposed at the lower peripheral edge, the adjustable cord being configured to selectively adjust and maintain a dimension of the lower peripheral edge to secure the fitted bed sheet to the mattress.   
     
     
         2 . The fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the lower peripheral edge comprises one or more channels. 
     
     
         3 . The fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 2 , wherein the one or more channels traverse the entire lower peripheral edge and the at least one adjustable cord comprises one cord spanning the entire channel. 
     
     
         4 . The fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 2 , wherein the at least one adjustable cord is disposed at least partially within the one or more channels. 
     
     
         5 . The fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 4 , wherein a length of the adjustable cord disposed within the one or more channels is selectively adjustable by pulling a portion of the adjustable cord out of the one or more channels. 
     
     
         6 . The fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 1 , further comprising one or more locking mechanisms associated with the adjustable cord to secure the dimension of the lower peripheral edge at a selected length. 
     
     
         7 . The fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 6 , further comprising one or more slits or pockets disposed adjacent to the one or more locking mechanisms, each slit or pocket being configured to allow one of the one or more locking mechanisms and/or a portion of the cord to pass therethrough. 
     
     
         8 . The fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 1 , further comprising one or more storage pockets disposed on one of the sides between the upper peripheral edge and the lower peripheral edge. 
     
     
         9 . The fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 8 , wherein each storage pocket comprises one or more openings configured to enable an electrical cable to pass therethrough. 
     
     
         10 . A partially fitted bed sheet for use as a top sheet on a mattress, the partially fitted bed sheet comprising:
 a planar portion defining an upper peripheral edge, the upper peripheral edge having a shape and size that generally corresponds to a shape and size of a top surface of the mattress;   a lower peripheral edge disposed below the upper peripheral edge;   three side portions extending between the upper and lower peripheral edges, wherein:
 edges of adjacent side portions are joined together to form first and second fitted corners at a first end of the partially fitted bedsheet; and 
 free edges of the planar portion and two of the three sides cooperate to form an opening at a second end of the partially fitted bedsheet, the opening being configured to have the mattress disposed therein and extend therefrom; and 
   at least one cord disposed along a portion of the lower peripheral edge and across the first and second fitted corners formed by the three sides, the at least one cord being configured to conform the lower peripheral edges adjacent to the fitted corners with one more corners of the mattress to partially secure the partially fitted bed sheet to the mattress.   
     
     
         11 . The partially fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 10 , wherein each of the fitted corners comprises an inside surface having a slip resistant elastomer material attached thereto. 
     
     
         12 . The partially fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 10 , wherein the at least one cord is adjustable in length. 
     
     
         13 . The partially fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 12 , wherein the lower peripheral edge adjacent to the fitted corners comprises one or more channels in which the at least one cord is at least partially disposed. 
     
     
         14 . The partially fitted bed sheet as recited in  claim 13 , wherein a portion of the at least one cord is configured to be selectively pulled out of the one or more channels to decrease a dimension of the lower peripheral edge and secure the fitted corners around the mattress. 
     
     
         15 . A blanket or comforter for use on a mattress, comprising:
 an insulation layer sized and shaped to substantially cover the mattress;   a mattress interface secured to or extending from an underside of the insulation layer proximate a first end of the insulation layer, the mattress interface being configured to wrap around two corners of the mattress to partially secure the first end of the insulation layer to the mattress; and   one or more cords associated with the mattress interface, the one or more cords being configured to secure the mattress interface around the mattress.   
     
     
         16 . The blanket or comforter as recited in  claim 15 , wherein the insulation layer comprises a duvet configured to hold an existing comforter. 
     
     
         17 . The blanket or comforter as recited in  claim 15 , further comprising one or more channels disposed at one or more free edges of the mattress interface. 
     
     
         18 . The blanket or comforter as recited in  claim 17 , wherein the one or more cords are disposed partially within the one or more channels. 
     
     
         19 . The blanket or comforter as recited in  claim 18 , further comprising one or more locking mechanisms associated with the one or more cords, the one or more locking mechanisms being configured to secure the one or more cords at a selected length. 
     
     
         20 . The blanket or comforter as recited in  claim 15 , wherein the mattress interface comprises opposing side walls, a bottom wall, and an end wall.
