Assemblable Mattress Support Whose Side Panels and Footboard Fit Inside the Headboard

Abstract

An assemblable mattress support can be shipped with all of its components compactly packed into the headboard. The mattress support includes a foldable longitudinal bar, a lateral bar, side panels, wooden slats, block legs and a footboard, all of which fit inside a compartment in the headboard. In an assembled state of the mattress support, a first connector at one end of the longitudinal bar attaches to a third connector on the outside of the headboard. A second connector at the other end of the longitudinal bar attaches to a fourth connector on the footboard. The middle of the lateral bar connects to the middle of the longitudinal bar. The block legs are attached to the bottom sides of the headboard and footboard. The slats are attached to one another by fabric ribbons and are placed in parallel over the longitudinal bar and support ledges on the side panels.

         21 . A mattress support comprising:
 a longitudinal bar with a first connector and a second connector;   a headboard with a third connector and a compartment, wherein the third connector is disposed outside of the compartment, and wherein the first connector is adapted to attach to the third connector on the outside of the headboard in an assembled state of the mattress support;   a footboard with a fourth connector, wherein the second connector is adapted to attach to the fourth connector in the assembled state of the mattress support;   legs that are attached to a bottom side of the headboard in the assembled state of the mattress support, wherein the legs are not attached to the headboard in a compact state of the mattress support;   a first side panel portion having a first slat support ledge;   a second side panel portion having a second slat support ledge;   a third side panel portion having a third slat support ledge;   a fourth side panel portion having a fourth slat support ledge; and   a plurality of slats, wherein in the assembled state of the mattress support each of the slats rests on at least one of the first slat support ledge, the second slat support ledge, the third slat support ledge, and the fourth slat support ledge, wherein the first connector is not connected to the third connector, and the second connector is not connected to the fourth connector in the compact state of the mattress support, and wherein the longitudinal bar, the footboard, the legs, the first side panel portion, the second side panel portion, the third side panel portion and the fourth side panel portion are contained inside the compartment in the compact state of the mattress support.   
     
     
         22 . The mattress support of  claim 21 , wherein the longitudinal bar has a first portion and a second portion, wherein the first portion includes the first connector, and the second portion includes the second connector, wherein the first portion and the second portion have a combined length, and wherein the compartment has an inner length that is shorter than the combined length of the first portion and the second portion. 
     
     
         23 . The mattress support of  claim 21 , wherein the first connector has a slot, wherein the third connector includes a bolt, and wherein the slot is configured to slide down over the bolt. 
     
     
         24 . The mattress support of  claim 21 , wherein the first connector has a slot that slides down over the second connector. 
     
     
         25 . The mattress support of  claim 21 , wherein the first connector is adapted to attach to the second connector in a rigid manner that does not rotate. 
     
     
         26 . The mattress support of  claim 21 , wherein in the assembled state of the mattress support the first side panel portion and the third side panel portion are attached to the headboard, and wherein in the assembled state of the mattress support the second side panel portion and the fourth side panel portion are attached to the footboard. 
     
     
         27 . The mattress support of  claim 21 , further comprising:
 a lateral bar, wherein in the assembled state of the mattress support the lateral bar attaches to the longitudinal bar and extends perpendicularly with respect to the longitudinal bar, and wherein in the compact state of the mattress support the lateral bar fits inside the compartment.   
     
     
         28 . The mattress support of  claim 27 , wherein in the assembled state of the mattress support, the lateral bar attaches to each of the first side panel portion, the second side panel portion, the third side panel portion and the fourth side panel portion, 
     
     
         29 . The mattress support of  claim 27 , wherein each of the slats is approximately as long as the lateral bar. 
     
     
         30 . The mattress support of  claim 21 , wherein the longitudinal bar is foldable. 
     
     
         31 . A mattress support comprising:
 a headboard with a compartment and an outside;   a footboard;   a first portion of a longitudinal bar, wherein the first portion has a first connector, wherein the first connector is configured to attach to the outside of the headboard when the mattress support is in an assembled state;   a second portion of the longitudinal bar, wherein the second portion has a second connector, wherein the second connector is configured to attach to the footboard in the assembled state but is not attached to the footboard when the second portion of the longitudinal bar is disposed within the compartment;   a first side panel portion having a first slat support ledge;   a second side panel portion having a second slat support ledge;   a third side panel portion having a third slat support ledge;   a fourth side panel portion having a fourth slat support ledge; and   a plurality of slats, wherein in the assembled state each of the slats rests on at least one of the first slat support ledge, the second slat support ledge, the third slat support ledge, and the fourth slat support ledge, wherein the first connector is not connected to the third connector, and the second connector is not connected to the fourth connector in a compact state of the mattress support, and wherein the first portion and second portion of the longitudinal bar, the footboard, the slats, the first side panel portion, the second side panel portion, the third side panel portion and the fourth side panel portion are contained inside the compartment in the compact state.   
     
     
         32 . The mattress support of  claim 31 , wherein the first portion and the second portion are each pivotally attachable to a bracket. 
     
     
         33 . The mattress support of  claim 31 , wherein the first portion is not attached to the second portion when the first portion and the second portion of the longitudinal bar are disposed within the compartment. 
     
     
         34 . The mattress support of  claim 31 , further comprising:
 a leg that is configured to attach to the outside of the headboard in the assembled state, wherein the leg is disposed inside the compartment in the compact state.   
     
     
         35 . The mattress support of  claim 31 , further comprising:
 a packing box that contains the headboard in the compact state when the headboard contains the footboard, the first portion of a longitudinal bar and the second portion of a longitudinal bar.   
     
     
         36 . The mattress support of  claim 31 , wherein the first connector has a slot configured to slide down over a bolt on the outside of the headboard. 
     
     
         37 . The mattress support of  claim 31 , wherein the first connector is adapted to attach to the outside of the headboard in a rigid manner that does not rotate. 
     
     
         38 . The mattress support of  claim 31 , wherein in the assembled state the first side panel portion and the third side panel portion are attached to the headboard, and wherein in the assembled state the second side panel portion and the fourth side panel portion are attached to the footboard. 
     
     
         39 . The mattress support of  claim 31 , wherein in the assembled state at least one of the slats extends from the first slat support ledge to the third slat support ledge.
