Abstract

A removable skateboard brake apparatus for easily adding and removing brakes to a skateboard includes a clip base having a base underside and a base top side. A clip top has a top underside and a top top side. The top underside is pivotably coupled to the base top side. A spring is coupled to the clip base and the clip top to bias the clip top towards the clip base. The clip base and the clip top are attached to a deck of a skateboard. A brake housing has a housing top side coupled to the base underside, a housing bottom side, a housing inner side, a housing outer side, and a pair of housing lateral sides. A brake pad is coupled to the brake housing. The brake pad is coupled to the housing bottom side to contact a wheel perimeter of a wheel of the skateboard.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A removable skateboard brake apparatus comprising:
a clip base having a base underside and a base top side; a clip top having a top underside and a top top side, the top underside being pivotably coupled to the base top side; a spring coupled to the clip base and the clip top, the spring biasing the clip top towards the clip base, the clip base and the clip top being configured to be attached to a deck of a skateboard wherein the clip base is in a fixed position relative to the deck of the skateboard; a brake housing coupled to the clip base such that the brake housing is in a fixed position relative to the clip base, the brake housing having a housing top side coupled to the base underside, a housing bottom side, a housing inner side, a housing outer side, and a pair of housing lateral sides; and a brake pad coupled to the brake housing such that the brake pad is in a fixed position relative to the clip base, the brake pad being coupled to the housing bottom side and being configured to contact a wheel perimeter of a wheel of the skateboard when the deck of the skateboard is urged towards the wheel.

2 . The removable skateboard brake apparatus of claim 1 further comprising the housing bottom side having a semicircular wheel well portion; the brake pad being coupled within the wheel well portion and conforming to the semicircular shape.

3 . The removable skateboard brake apparatus of claim 2 further comprising the brake pad being of uniform thickness excepting a pair of rounded brake edges adjacent a pair of outer portions of the housing bottom side on each side of the wheel well portion.

4 . The removable skateboard brake apparatus of claim 1 further comprising the width of the pair of housing lateral sides being wider than the wheel of the skateboard.

5 . The removable skateboard brake apparatus of claim 1 further comprising the base top side having a plurality of base ears; the top underside having a plurality of top ears positioned to align adjacent the plurality of base ears; the spring including a pair of spring axles coupled to the plurality of base ears and the plurality of top ears and a pair of torsion springs coupled around the pair of spring axles.

6 . The removable skateboard brake apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a pair of clip grips coupled to the clip base and the clip top, the pair of c grips being coupled to the base top side and the top underside.

7 . The removable skateboard brake apparatus of claim further comprising the clip top being positioned such that it rests parallel to the clip base when securing the clip to the deck of the skateboard.

8 . The removable skateboard brake apparatus of claim 1 further comprising the housing inner side being aligned with a base distal edge of the clip base.

9 . A removable skateboard brake apparatus comprising:
a clip base having a base underside and a base top side, the base top side having a plurality of base ears; a clip top having a top underside and a top top side, the top underside having a plurality of top ears positioned to align adjacent the plurality of base ears, the top underside being pivotably coupled to the base top side; a spring coupled to the clip base and the clip top, the spring including a pair of spring axles coupled to the plurality of base ears and the plurality of top ears and a pair of torsion springs coupled around the pair of spring axles, the spring biasing the clip top towards the clip base, the clip base and the clip top being configured to be attached to a deck of a skateboard wherein the clip base is in a fixed position relative to the deck of the skateboard, the clip top being positioned such that it rests parallel to the clip base when securing the clip to the deck of the skateboard; a pair of clip grips coupled to the clip base and the clip top, the pair of clip grips being coupled to the base top side and the top underside; a brake housing coupled to the clip base such that the brake housing is in a fixed position relative to the clip base, the brake housing having a housing top side coupled to the base underside, a housing bottom side, a housing inner side, a housing outer side, and a pair of housing lateral sides, the housing inner side being aligned with a base distal edge of the clip base, the housing bottom side having a semicircular wheel well portion, the width of the pair of housing lateral sides being wider than a wheel of the skateboard; and a brake pad coupled to the brake housing such that the brake pad is in a fixed position relative to the clip base, the brake pad being coupled to the housing bottom side and being configured to contact a wheel perimeter of the wheel of the skateboard, the brake pad being coupled within the wheel well portion and conforming to the semicircular shape, the brake pad being of uniform thickness excepting a pair of rounded brake edges adjacent a pair of outer portions of the housing bottom side on each side of the wheel well portion, the brake housing having a thickness from the clip base to the semicircular wheel well portion wherein the brake pad is configured to contact the wheel of the skateboard when the deck of the skateboard is urged towards the wheel.
