Abstract

Among other things, techniques and systems are disclosed for implementing contextual voice commands. On a device, a data item in a first context is displayed. On the device, a physical input selecting the displayed data item in the first context is received. On the device, a voice input that relates the selected data item to an operation in a second context is received. The operation is performed on the selected data item in the second context.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . (canceled)

         2 . A method, comprising:
 at an electronic device with one or more processors, a display unit and memory:
 receiving a selection of a data item displayed on the display unit;
 receiving a voice input;
 determining, from the voice input, a request for help related to available operations associated with the data item, wherein the operation can be performed using the electronic device; and
 in response to determining the voice input is a request for help related to the operations associated with the data item, providing a list of available voice commands relating to the available operations.

         3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
 determining an operation a user is currently performing, wherein the operation associated with the user input is the operation the user is currently performing.

         4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the display unit comprises a touch screen and the data item is selected by receiving a touch input on a portion of the touch screen displaying the data item.

         5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the selection of the data item is performed by a user and the voice input is received from the user.

         6 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the selection of the data item is in an application context.

         7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the available operation associated with the data item includes an operation that can be performed in the application context.

         8 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the list of available voice commands are displayed on the display unit.

         9 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the data item is text displayed in a word processing application context.

         10 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the list of available voice commands are provided by an audio output of the electronic device.

         11 . The method of claims 2 , wherein the voice input includes the word help.

         12 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the voice input includes a predetermined trigger phrase.

         13 . An electronic device, comprising:
 one or more processors; a display unit; a memory; and one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:
 receiving a selection of a data item displayed on the display unit;
 receiving a voice input;
 determining, from the voice input, a request for help related to available operations associated with the data item, wherein the operation can be performed using the electronic device; and
 in response to determining the voice input is a request for help related to the operations associated with the data item, providing a list of available voice commands relating to the available operations.

         14 . The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the selection of the data item is performed by a user and the voice input is received from the user.

         15 . The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the list of available voice commands are displayed on the display unit.

         16 . The method of claims 13 , wherein the voice input includes the word help.

         17 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by one or more processors of an electronic device, cause the electronic device to:
 receiving a selection of a data item displayed on the display unit; receiving a voice input; determining, from the voice input, a request for help related to available operations associated with the data item, wherein the operation can be performed using the electronic device; and in response to determining the voice input is a request for help related to the operations associated with the data item, providing a list of available voice commands relating to the available operations.

         18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the selection of the data item is performed by a user and the voice input is received from the user.

         19 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the list of available voice commands are displayed on the display unit.

         20 . The method of claims 17 , wherein the voice input includes the word help.
