Abstract
A content streaming system and methodology for facilitating the management of content streaming. A video packaging and origination service requests streaming content that is organized according to content segments. Individual content segments will be encoded according to a plurality of encoding profiles and generated by different encoders. The video packaging and origination service utilizes synchronization information provided to the encoders to select individual encoded content segments responsive to the request for streaming content.

2 . A system to manage streaming content comprising:
one or more computing devices associated with a video packaging and origination service, wherein the video packaging and origination service is configured to:
receive a first plurality of segments of a set of segments encoded according to an encoding profile from a first encoding node of a plurality of encoding nodes; each segment of the first plurality of segments incorporating a corresponding first relative timestamp or sequence number;
receive a second plurality of segments of the set of segments encoded according to the encoding profile from a second encoding node of the plurality of encoding nodes; each segment of the second plurality of segments incorporating a corresponding second relative timestamp or sequence number;
assemble at least one segment from the first plurality of segments and at least one segment from the second plurality of segments to form a set of ordered segments utilizing the corresponding first and second relative timestamps or sequence numbers; and
store the set of ordered segments.
3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the first plurality of segments and the second plurality of segments are at least partially overlapping segments and the video packaging and origination service is further configured to remove duplicate segments of the at least partially overlapping segments.
4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein removal of the duplicate segments is based on one or more of a quality measurement, a priority designation, and attributable cost.
5 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the video packaging and origination service is further configured to extrapolate additional segments to facilitate assembly of the set of ordered segments.
6 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the video packaging and origination service is further configured to generate deterministic data associated with the set of ordered segments, the deterministic data being used to access and generate outgoing content streams.
7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the deterministic data includes one or more of timestamp information related to a time of play of the set of ordered segments, a sequence number identifying an order of ordered segment in the set of ordered segments, a time of operation of the first encoding node or the second encoding node.
8 . A computer-implemented method to manage transmission of content, the method comprising:
receiving a first plurality of segments of a set of segments encoded according to an encoding profile from a first encoding node of a plurality of encoding nodes; each segment of the first plurality of segments incorporating a corresponding first relative timestamp or sequence number; receiving a second plurality of segments of the set of segments encoded according to the encoding profile from a second encoding node of the plurality of encoding nodes; each segment of the second plurality of segments incorporating a corresponding second relative timestamp or sequence number; and forming a set of ordered segments utilizing the corresponding first and second relative timestamps or sequence numbers, the set of ordered segments comprising at least one segment from the first plurality of segments and at least one segment from the second plurality of segments.
9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the first plurality of segments and the second plurality of segments are at least partially overlapping segments.
10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 further comprising removing duplicate segments of the at least partially overlapping segments.
11 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 further comprising removing duplicate segments of the at least partially overlapping segments based on one or more of a quality measurement, a priority designation, and attributable cost.
12 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 further comprising extrapolating additional segments to facilitate assembly of the set of ordered segments.
13 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 further comprising generating deterministic data associated with the set of ordered segments, the deterministic data being used to access and generate outgoing content streams.
14 . The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , wherein the deterministic data includes one or more of timestamp information related to a time of play of the set of ordered segments, a sequence number identifying an order of ordered segment in the set of ordered segments, a time of operation of the first encoding node or the second encoding node.
15 . A computer-implemented method to manage transmission of content, the method comprising:
causing generation of a plurality of encoder streams that are encoded according to an encoding profile, and corresponding to a selected number of encoders to provide requested content; and processing encoded segments from the selected number of encoders in accordance with time elapsed information to form a set of encoded content segments.
16 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 further comprising identifying missing segments in the set of encoded segments based at least in part on the time elapsed information.
17 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 further comprising extrapolating additional segments in accordance with the identified missing segments to facilitate the processing.
18 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 further comprising extrapolating at least a portion of an additional segment in accordance with the identified missing segments to facilitate the processing.
19 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 further comprising removing duplicate segments of partially overlapping segments of the first and second pluralities of segments.
20 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 further comprising selecting the number of encoders to provide the requested content.
