Abstract
The present disclosure describes an easy-to-drape garment comprising a wrap-around component with an adjustable waistband; a series of pre-stitched pleats; and a free-flowing component for draping, and methods of making same.

1 . A garment comprising:
(a) a wrap-around component with an adjustable waistband; (b) a series of pre-stitched pleats; and (c) a free-flowing component; wherein upon draping said garment onto a wearer, the garment retains the appearance of a traditionally draped saree.
2 . The garment of claim 1 , wherein the wrap-around component comprises of an interior surface 2 a , an exterior surface 2 b , an exterior side edge 2 c , and an interior side edge 2 d , a top end 2 e , a bottom end 2 f, wherein said side edges 2 c and 2 d mutually overlap to form a skirt when wrapped; wherein the length of said top end 2 e is attached to the adjustable waistband 3 , said waistband further comprises an exterior edge 3 a and an interior edge 3 b , said edges mutually overlap when wrapped; wherein the pre-stitched pleats 4 are incorporated within said exterior surface 2 b , towards the end of the interior side edge 2 d , said pleats spanning from said top end 2 e to said bottom end 2 f; wherein the free-flowing component 5 extends as a continuation of the pre-stitched pleats 4 to drape around the body of a wearer; and wherein the draping of said garment retains the appearance of an authentically draped saree.
3 . The garment of claim 1 , wherein the adjustable waistband is a belt that comprises:
at least one section of elastic material 3 c along the length of said waistband at a point between said exterior edge 3 a and the interior edge 3 b; at least one complementary fastening element, wherein one fastening element is located at about the exterior end of said waistband 3 a and a second complementary fastening element at about the interior edge 3 b of said waistband; wherein the elastic material and the primary fastening mechanisms provide a comfortable and secure means to hold the wrap in place.
4 . The garment of claim 3 , wherein the belt is made from reinforced material of cloth.
5 . The garment of claim 3 , wherein said waistband comprises a series of complementary fastening elements to provide a secure fit of the wrap-around on varied sizes of the wearer.
6 . The garment of claim 5 , wherein the complementary fastening components are one of hooks and eyes, hooks and loops, snaps, buttons and holes, buckles, Velcro.
7 . The garment of claim 1 , wherein the pre-stitched pleats 4 consist of at least one section of vertical seam 6 .
8 . The garment of claim 1 , wherein the wrap-around component further comprises of a material of cloth that covers the interior surface 2 a of said component, wherein said material is a substitute for a petticoat.
9 . A method of making the garment of claim 1 from a piece of fabric, said method comprising:
(a) constructing the adjustable waist band 3 with the fastening means;
(b) attaching said waistband to the top end 2 e of said fabric material to make the wrap-around component;
(b) stitching a series of pleats 4 within the exterior surface of the cloth 2 b around where the interior side edge 2 d of the wrap-around component ends.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the piece of fabric is a rectangular material of fabric is 5 to 9 yards long.
11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein method comprises of constructing the adjustable waistband 3 by adapting the top end of the saree 2 e.
12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the construction of the adjustable waistband comprises:
(a) preparing a belt for the wrap-around component; (b) inserting at least one section of elastic material 3 c along the length of said belt at a point between said first edge 3 a and the second edge 3 b; (c) mounting at least one complementary fastening element comprising one fastening element at about the first end of said waistband 3 a , and a second fastening element at about the second edge 3 b of said waistband; wherein the elastic material and the primary fastening mechanisms provide a comfortable and secure means to hold the wrap in place.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the complementary fastening components are ones selected from a group consisting of hooks and eyes, hooks and loops, snaps, buttons and holes, buckles, Velcro.
14 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising making at least one vertical seam 6 over the pre-stitched pleats.
15 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising mounting a clip 7 at a point on the free-flowing component 5 of the garment such that it helps secure said component to the shoulder the wearer.
16 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising attaching a petticoat material to the wrap-around component such that it covers the interior surface 2 a of the said wrap-around component.
17 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the belt is constructed from a reinforced material of cloth.
18 . A method of making the garment of claim 1 from a traditional saree or saree material, said method comprising:
(a) constructing the adjustable waist 3 band with complementary fastening means;
(b) attaching said waistband 3 to the top end 2 e of said saree material to make the wrap-around component;
(c) stitching a series of pleats 4 within the exterior surface of the cloth 2 b towards the interior side edge 2 d of the wrap-around component ends.
19 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising making a vertical seam 6 on the pleats 4 .
20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein constructing the adjustable waistband 3 comprises:
(a) preparing a belt for the wrap-around component;
(b) inserting at least one section of elastic material 3 c along the length of said belt at a point between said first edge 3 a and the second edge 3 b;
(c) mounting at least one complementary fastening element comprising one fastening element at about the first end of said waistband 3 a , and a second fastening element at about the second edge 3 b of said waistband.
21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the belt is made from a reinforced material of cloth.
22 . The method of claim 20 , wherein constructing the adjustable waist band 3 comprises of mounting a series of complementary fastening elements, wherein the complementary fastening components are one of hooks and eyes, hooks and loops, snaps, buttons and holes, buckles, Velcro.
