Gutter guard barrier

Abstract

A gutter debris preclusion device for use with a gutter having a support structure being substantially rigid; a screen having a plurality of apertures and being disposed on the support structure; and, a fastener member disposed on the support structure and having a barrier member and a protective film removably attached to the barrier member.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A gutter debris preclusion system for attachment to a gutter and roof, comprising:
 a gutter debris preclusion device wider than a width of a prospective gutter, having a roof side and gutter side, the roof side extending beyond a roof side edge of the prospective gutter and being configured for attachment to a prospective roof, the gutter side having a contact portion running along a length of the device comprising:   a solid, non-porous lip whose bottom surface is substantially flat; and   a drip leg joined to the lip, the drip leg extending downward into the prospective gutter,   wherein the lip and drip leg and are proximal to a lip of the prospective gutter,   wherein the device spans an open face of the protective gutter and extends at least one of onto or over the prospective gutter lip, wherein the lip is parallel to a top surface of the prospective gutter lip and covers an entirety of the prospective gutter lip when placed thereupon; and   a double-sided adhesive tape pre-attached to an entire length of the contact portion and, upon application of the device, a bottom surface of the adhesive tape is attached to the prospective gutter lip,   wherein the adhesive tape secures the contact portion of the gutter debris preclusion device to the prospective gutter lip and forms a seal therebetween, and prevents galvanic corrosion between the gutter preclusion device and the prospective gutter.   
     
     
         2 . The gutter debris preclusion system as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the adhesive tape is a laminate having a first and second adhesive layers with a middle layer disposed between the first and second adhesive layers. 
     
     
         3 . The gutter debris preclusion system as recited in  claim 1 , wherein an end portion of the contact portion's lip extends past the prospective gutter lip and is bent at a fixed acute angle downwards. 
     
     
         4 . The gutter debris preclusion system as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the drip edge includes a terminal element angled to be disposed under the prospective gutter lip. 
     
     
         5 . The gutter debris preclusion system as recited in  claim 1 , wherein a portion of the gutter debris preclusion device over a face of the prospective gutter is a screen having a plurality of apertures. 
     
     
         6 . The gutter debris preclusion system as recited in  claim 1 , wherein the adhesive tape is configured with a removable protective film that is removed prior to attachment to the prospective gutter lip. 
     
     
         7 . A method for fastening a debris preclusion device to a roof gutter, comprising:
 obtaining a gutter debris preclusion device;   providing a double sided adhesive tape having first and second opposing surfaces and protective layers removably disposed over each of the first and second surfaces;   removing the protective layer from the first surface of the double sided adhesive member;   affixing the first surface of the double sided adhesive tape to the debris preclusion device;   placing a rear of the debris preclusion device under a roof shingle;   removing the protective layer from the second surface of the adhesive tape; and   pressing the second surface of the adhesive tape to a portion of a gutter lip of the gutter, wherein the adhesive tape forms a corrosion barrier between the gutter preclusion device and the gutter.   
     
     
         8 . The method for fastening a debris preclusion device to a roof gutter, as recited in  claim 7 , wherein the step of removing the protective layer from the first surface of the adhesive tape and the pressing the second surface of the adhesive tape precede the steps of removing the protective layer from the first surface of the adhesive tape and affixing the first surface of the adhesive tape to the debris preclusion device. 
     
     
         9 . A gutter debris preclusion system for attachment to a gutter lip and roof, comprising:
 a gutter debris preclusion device wider than a width of a prospective gutter, and having a roof side and gutter side, the roof side being configured for attachment to a prospective roof, the gutter side having a contact portion running along a length of the device comprising:
 a solid, non-porous lip whose bottom surface is substantially flat; and
 a drip leg joined to the lip, the drip leg extending downward into the prospective gutter, wherein the lip and the drip leg are proximal to a lip of the prospective gutter, 
 
 wherein the device spans an open face of the prospective gutter and extends at least one of onto or over the prospective gutter lip, wherein the lip is parallel to a top surface of the prospective gutter lip and covers an entirety of the prospective gutter lip when placed thereupon; and 
   adhesive means pre-attached along an entire length of the contact portion and to the prospective gutter lip to secure the device to the lip, to form a seal between the contact portion and the prospective gutter lip and to prevent galvanic corrosion between the gutter preclusion device and the prospective gutter.   
     
     
         10 . The gutter debris preclusion system, as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the adhesive means is configured with a removable protective film that is removed prior to attachment to the prospective gutter lip. 
     
     
         11 . A gutter debris preclusion system, comprising:
 a gutter with a lip;   a gutter debris preclusion device having a clip insertion end; and   a gutter debris preclusion clip, having first and second legs joined together at a midsection portion, wherein the first and second legs have distal ends defining an opening, wherein the first and second legs and the midsection portion define a cavity, and wherein the first and second legs are spring biasedly opposed at the opening, wherein an outer surface of the first leg is attached to a double-sided adhesive tape spanning a length of the clip, and an opposite side of the tape is attached to top or bottom surface of the gutter lip, so as to orient the clip's opening towards a clip insertion end of the gutter debris preclusion device,   wherein the clip insertion end of the gutter preclusion device is disposed within the cavity of the clip to form a debris barrier over the gutter and the adhesive tape forms a corrosion barrier between the gutter preclusion device and the gutter.   
     
     
         12 . The gutter debris preclusion system, as recited in  claim 11 , wherein the midsection portion has a generally curved profile shape. 
     
     
         13 . The gutter debris preclusion system, as recited in  claim 11 , wherein the midsection portion has a generally flat profile to abut an edge of the clip insertion end of the gutter debris preclusion device. 
     
     
         14 . The gutter debris preclusion system, as recited in  claim 11 , wherein the second leg has a tail section extending behind the midsection portion to form an additional debris barrier over the gutter lip. 
     
     
         15 . The gutter debris preclusion system, as recited in  claim 14 , wherein the opposite side of the tape is attached to an end of the gutter lip.
