Abstract
Compositions for controlled release of active ingredients and methods of making same are generally provided. In some embodiments, the composition comprises an active ingredient and a delivery material. In some embodiments, the composition comprises a volatile or gaseous active ingredient useful for applications in at least one of agriculture, pest control, odor control, and food preservation. In some embodiments, the active ingredient is a cyclopropene. In some embodiments, the active ingredient is an essential oil, a terpene, or a terpenoid. In some embodiments, the delivery material is a carbon material or a silicate material.

a cyclopropene; and a delivery material comprising a carbon material, wherein the delivery material is configured to release the cyclopropene, and wherein the delivery material has:
a density in the range of 0.05-3 g/cm 3 ;
a pore volume in the range of 0.1-10 cm 3 /g;
a surface area in the range of 1-4000 m 2 /g;
a moisture content in the range of 0-50%; and
an iodine number in the range of 0-1500 mg/g.
152 . The composition of claim 151 , wherein the cyclopropene is 1-methylcyclopropene.
153 . The composition of claim 151 , wherein the carbon material comprises activated carbon.
154 . The composition of claim 153 , wherein the cyclopropene is 1-methylcyclopropene.
155 . The composition of claim 151 , wherein the cyclopropene is present in the delivery material.
156 . The composition of claim 151 , wherein the delivery material has a density in the range of 0.1-3 g/cm 3 .

164 . The composition of claim 151 , wherein the cyclopropene is present in the composition in an amount of at least 0.01 wt % versus the total weight of the delivery material and the cyclopropene.
165 . The composition of claim 151 , wherein the composition is configured to release the ethylene inhibitor at a temperature in a range of 0° C. to 40° C.
166 . A method, comprising:
releasing a cyclopropene from a delivery material, wherein the delivery material comprises a carbon material, and wherein the delivery material has:
a density in the range of 0.05-3 g/cm 3 ;
a pore volume in the range of 0.1-10 cm 3 /g;
a surface area in the range of 1-4000 m 2 /g;
a moisture content in the range of 0-50%; and
an iodine number in the range of 0-1500 mg/g.
167 . The method of claim 166 , wherein the cyclopropene is 1-methylcyclopropene.
168 . The method of claim 166 , wherein the carbon material comprises activated carbon.
169 . The method of claim 168 , wherein the cyclopropene is 1-methylcyclopropene.
170 . The method of claim 166 , wherein the cyclopropene is present in the delivery material.

180 . The method of claim 166 , wherein the releasing the cyclopropene is performed at a temperature in a range of 0° C. to 40° C.
181 . The method of claim 166 , wherein the releasing the cyclopropene is performed over a period of between 5 days to 30 days.
