Abstract
One or more embodiments of the disclosure provide systems and methods for providing media presentations to users of a media presentation system. A media presentation generally includes a plurality of media segments provided by multiple users of the media presentation system. In one or more embodiments, a user of the media presentation system may share a media presentation with a co-user. The media presentation system can enable the co-user, if authorized by the user, to contribute (e.g., add a media segment) to a media presentation shared with the co-user.

1 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
receiving, at a client device associated with a user, a media presentation for presentation; providing the media presentation for display in a graphical user interface comprising an activation area and a deactivation area; playing the media presentation upon the media presentation entering the activation area; and pausing the media presentation upon the media presentation entering the deactivation area.
2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein pausing the media presentation upon the media presentation entering the deactivation area comprises causing the client device to display the media presentation with a representative frame within the graphical user interface of the client device.
3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising causing the media presentation to enter the activation area in response to user input to scroll a media presentation feed including the media presentation.
4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising detecting that the media presentation has entered the activation area by detecting that the media presentation is positioned at least partially between upper and lower activation boundaries defining the activation area.
5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising recommencing playing of the media presentation upon the media presentation re-entering the activation area from the deactivation area.
6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein recommencing playing of the media presentation upon the media presentation re-entering the activation area from the deactivation area comprises resuming playing of the media presentation from a next un-played frame of the media presentation.
7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein recommencing playing of the media presentation upon the media presentation re-entering the activation area from the deactivation area comprises resuming playing of the media presentation from a first frame of the media presentation.
8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising causing the client device to display, within the graphical user interface in connection with the media presentation, a selectable element that allows an additional media segment to be appended to the media presentation.
9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the selectable element is displayed over a portion of the media presentation.
10 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:
receiving, at a client device associated with a user, a media presentation for presentation; providing the media presentation for display in a graphical user interface comprising an activation area and a deactivation area; playing the media presentation upon the media presentation entering the activation area; and pausing the media presentation upon the media presentation entering the deactivation area.
11 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform further operations comprising: playing an additional media presentation moved into the activation area upon pausing the media presentation due to entering the deactivation area.
12 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein pausing the media presentation upon the media presentation entering the deactivation area comprises causing the client device to display a representative frame from the media presentation within the graphical user interface.
13 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the representative frame comprises a last-played frame of the media presentation.
14 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the representative frame comprises a next un-played frame of the media presentation.
15 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform further operations comprising:
including the media presentation within a media presentation feed that is vertically scrollable within the graphical user interface; and moving the media presentation into the activation area in response to user input to vertically scroll the media presentation feed.
16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the media presentation comprises a video uploaded to a social networking system by another user with an affinity to the user of the client device.
17 . A system comprising:
a memory device; and at least one processor configured to cause the system to:
receive a media presentation for presentation;
provide the media presentation for display in a graphical user interface comprising an activation area and a deactivation area;
play the media presentation upon the media presentation entering the activation area; and
pause the media presentation upon the media presentation entering the deactivation area.
18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to cause the media presentation to enter the activation area in response to user input to scroll a media presentation feed including the media presentation.
19 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to detect that the media presentation has entered the activation area by detecting that the media presentation is positioned at least partially between upper and lower activation boundaries defining the activation area.
