Abstract

A system, apparatus, and method for resolving a data transaction is provided in which data transactions are resolved by a hardware matching processor that identifies data transaction requests received from client devices over a data communication network, matches incoming transaction requests with previously received transaction requests, and, based thereon, transmits electronic data transaction results messages to the client device. An incoming data transaction request is received, and a match is attempted with one or more previously received but not yet resolved data transaction requests. It is identified whether either the incoming data transaction request or the matching data transaction request are dependent on the resolution of another data transaction request and whether that dependent data transaction request has been resolved. The data transaction requests are resolved and/or stored based on the match and resolution of dependencies.

1 . A computer implemented method of resolving data transactions using cryptocurrency accounts, the computer implemented method comprising:
 receiving via a data communications network, by a hardware matching processor of a virtual payment computer system, a first account creation request from a first client device associated with a first entity, the first account creation request including data indicative of a first cryptocurrency account associated with the first entity and a second account creation request from a second client device associated with a second entity, the second account creation request including data indicative of a second cryptocurrency account associated with the second entity;   creating, by the hardware matching processor, a first virtual payment account associated with the first entity and a second virtual payment account associated with the second entity;   linking, by the hardware matching processor, the first cryptocurrency account to the first virtual payment account and the second cryptocurrency account to the second virtual payment account;   receiving, by the hardware matching processor, an incoming data transaction request from the first client device via the data communications network, the incoming data transaction request containing data indicative of a first data transaction counter to a second data transaction previously received from the second client device and stored in a memory coupled with the hardware matching processor, wherein the incoming data transaction request does not contain identifying information including the second cryptocurrency account associated with the second entity and the second data transaction does not contain identifying information including the first cryptocurrency account associated with the first entity;   determining, by the hardware matching processor based on the receiving, that the first data transaction is counter to the second data transaction; and   resolving, by the hardware matching processor using the first virtual payment account and the second virtual payment account based on the determining, at least partially, the incoming data transaction request and the second data transaction request, and storing any unresolved remainder of the first data transaction request or the second data transaction request in the memory.   
     
     
         2 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 generating a data transaction result message comprising data indicative of the resolution; and   transmitting the generated data transaction result message to at least the first client device via the data communications network.   
     
     
         3 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving, by the hardware matching processor, a request from the first client device for funds to be added to the first virtual payment account;   sending, by the hardware matching processor, a request for the funds to the first cryptocurrency account; and   receiving, by the hardware matching processor, the funds from the first cryptocurrency account to be added to the first virtual payment account.   
     
     
         4 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein the cryptocurrency comprises Bitcoin. 
     
     
         5 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein the resolving further comprises:
 removing the first data transaction and the second data transaction from the memory to the extent the first data transaction and the second data transaction are satisfied based on the resolving; and   creating positions in a position database for each transacting entity representative of an obligation entered into by each transacting entity by virtue of the determining and resolving of the first data transaction and the second data transaction.   
     
     
         6 . The computer implemented method of  claim 5 , wherein at least one of the positions comprises an obligation to pay comprising at least an amount and a settlement date. 
     
     
         7 . The computer implemented method of  claim 5 , wherein at least one of the positions comprises an entitlement comprising at least an amount and a settlement date. 
     
     
         8 . The computer implemented method of  claim 5 , wherein at least one of the positions comprises an obligation to lend comprising at least an amount, a settlement data, and a lending rate. 
     
     
         9 . The computer implemented method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 netting or offsetting one or more previously created positions in the position database for a transaction entity as a result of a new position created for the obligation or entitlement entered into by each transacting entity by virtue of the resolution of the first data transaction and the second data transaction, wherein at least one of one or more previously created positions or new position are entirely removed from the position database as a result.   
     
     
         10 . The computer implemented method of  claim 5 , further comprising:
 charging one or more fees to one or more of the transacting entities.   
     
     
         11 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 identifying, by the hardware matching processor, that the first data transaction and/or the second data transaction is dependent on resolution of another data transaction request and further determining, by the hardware matching processor, that the other data transaction request has been resolved.   
     
     
         12 . The computer implemented method of  claim 11 , wherein the other data transaction request is a credit transaction. 
     
     
         13 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 broadcasting, via the data communications network by the hardware matching processor subsequent to receipt of the second data transaction request and prior to receipt of the incoming data transaction request, data indicative of the second data transaction request, the incoming data transaction request being responsive thereto.   
     
     
         14 . The computer implemented method of  claim 13 , wherein the second data transaction comprises an offer to provide credit comprising at least an amount and an interest rate, the incoming data transaction request comprising an acceptance thereof. 
     
     
         15 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein the incoming data transaction request includes a first transaction identifier, the determining further comprising matching the first transaction identifier to a second transaction identifier included in the second data transaction request. 
     
     
         16 . The computer implemented method of  claim 15 , further comprising:
 transferring funds between the first virtual payment account associated with the first entity and the second virtual payment account associated with the second entity.   
     
     
         17 . A virtual payment computer system for resolving asynchronously received data transaction request messages using cryptocurrency accounts, the virtual payment computer system comprising:
 a hardware matching processor; and   a non-transitory memory including computer program code for one or more programs, the non-transitory memory and the computer program code configured to, with the hardware matching processor, cause the virtual payment computer system to:
 receive via a data communications network a first account creation request from a first client device associated with a first entity, the first account creation request including data indicative of a first cryptocurrency account associated with the first entity and a second account creation request from a second client device associated with a second entity, the second account creation request including data indicative of a second cryptocurrency account associated with the second entity; 
 create a first virtual payment account associated with the first entity and a second virtual payment account associated with the second entity; 
 link the first cryptocurrency account to the first virtual payment account and the second cryptocurrency account to the second virtual payment account; 
 receive an incoming data transaction request from the first client device via the data communications network, the incoming data transaction request containing data indicative of a first data transaction counter to a second data transaction previously received from the second client device and stored in a memory coupled with the hardware matching processor, wherein the incoming data transaction request does not contain identifying information including the second cryptocurrency account associated with the second entity and the second data transaction does not contain identifying information including the first cryptocurrency account associated with the first entity; 
 determine, based on the receiving, that the first data transaction is counter to the second data transaction; and 
 resolve, at least partially, using the first virtual payment account and the second virtual payment account, the incoming data transaction request and the second data transaction request, and storing any unresolved remainder of the first data transaction request or the second data transaction request in the memory. 
   
     
     
         18 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 17 , wherein the computer program code is further configured to cause the virtual payment computer system to:
 generate a data transaction result message comprising data indicative of the resolution; and   transmit the generated data transaction result message to at least to the first client device via the data communications network.   
     
     
         19 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 17 , wherein the computer program code is further configured to cause the virtual payment computer system to:
 receive a request from the first client device for funds to be added to the first virtual payment account;   send a request for the funds to the first cryptocurrency account; and   receive the funds from the first cryptocurrency account to be added to the first virtual payment account.   
     
     
         20 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 17 , wherein the cryptocurrency comprises Bitcoin. 
     
     
         21 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 17 , wherein the computer program code is further configured to cause the virtual payment computer system to:
 remove the first data transaction and the second data transaction from the memory to the extent the first data transaction and the second data transaction are satisfied based on the resolving; and   create positions in a position database for each transacting entity representative of an obligation entered into by each transacting entity by virtue of the determining and resolving of the first data transaction and the second data transaction.   
     
     
         22 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 21 , wherein at least one of the positions comprises an obligation to pay comprising at least an amount and a settlement date. 
     
     
         23 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 21 , wherein at least one of the positions comprises an entitlement comprising at least an amount and a settlement date. 
     
     
         24 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 21 , wherein at least one of the positions comprises an obligation to lend comprising at least an amount, a settlement data, and a lending rate. 
     
     
         25 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 21 , wherein the computer program code is further configured to cause the virtual payment computer system to:
 net or offset one or more previously created positions in the position database for a transaction entity as a result of a new position created for the obligation or entitlement entered into by each transacting entity by virtue of the resolution of the first data transaction and the second data transaction, wherein at least one of one or more previously created positions or new position are entirely removed from the position database as a result.   
     
     
         26 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 21 , wherein the computer program code is further configured to cause the virtual payment computer system to:
 charge one or more fees to one or more of the transacting entities.   
     
     
         27 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 17 , wherein the computer program code is further configured to cause the virtual payment computer system to:
 identify that the first data transaction and/or the second data transaction is dependent on resolution of another data transaction request and further determine that the other data transaction request has been resolved.   
     
     
         28 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 27 , wherein the other data transaction request is a credit transaction. 
     
     
         29 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 17 , wherein the computer program code is further configured to cause the virtual payment computer system to:
 broadcast, via the data communications network, subsequent to receipt of the second data transaction request and prior to receipt of the incoming data transaction request, data indicative of the second data transaction request, the incoming data transaction request being responsive thereto.   
     
     
         30 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 29 , wherein the second data transaction comprises an offer to provide credit comprising at least an amount and an interest rate, the incoming data transaction request comprising an acceptance thereof. 
     
     
         31 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 17 , wherein the incoming data transaction request includes a first transaction identifier, the computer program code being further configured to cause the virtual payment computer system to match the first transaction identifier to a second transaction identifier included in the second data transaction request. 
     
     
         32 . The virtual payment computer system of  claim 31 , wherein the computer program code is further configured to cause the virtual payment computer system to:
 transfer funds between the first virtual payment account associated with the first entity and the second virtual payment account associated with the second entity.   
     
     
         33 . A non-transitory computer readable medium including instructions for resolving, using cryptocurrency accounts, a data transaction request with a counter data transaction request received asynchronously in time, that when executed by a processor of a virtual payment system, are operable to cause the processor to:
 receive via a data communications network a first account creation request from a first client device associated with a first entity, the first account creation request including data indicative of a first cryptocurrency account associated with the first entity and a second account creation request from a second client device associated with a second entity, the second account creation request including data indicative of a second cryptocurrency account associated with the second entity;   create a first virtual payment account associated with the first entity and a second virtual payment account associated with the second entity;   linking the first cryptocurrency account to the first virtual payment account and the second cryptocurrency account to the second virtual payment account;   receive an incoming data transaction request from the first client device via the data communications network, the incoming data transaction request containing data indicative of a first data transaction counter to a second data transaction previously received from a second client device and stored in a memory coupled with the processor, wherein the incoming data transaction request does not contain identifying information including the second cryptocurrency account associated with the second entity and the second data transaction does not contain identifying information including the first cryptocurrency account associated with the first   determine, based on the receiving, that the first data transaction is counter to the second data transaction; and   resolve, at least partially, using the first virtual payment account and the second virtual payment account, the incoming data transaction request and the second data transaction request, and storing any unresolved remainder of the first data transaction request or the second data transaction request in the memory.   
     
     
         34 . A system of resolving data transactions using cryptocurrency accounts, the system comprising:
 means for receiving via a data communications network a first account creation request from a first client device associated with a first entity, the first account creation request including data indicative of a first cryptocurrency account associated with the first entity and a second account creation request from a second client device associated with a second entity, the second account creation request including data indicative of a second cryptocurrency account associated with the second entity;   means for creating a first virtual payment account associated with the first entity and a second virtual payment account associated with the second entity;   means for linking the first cryptocurrency account to the first virtual payment account and the second cryptocurrency account to the second virtual payment account;   means for receiving an incoming data transaction request from the first client device via the data communications network, the incoming data transaction request containing data indicative of a first data transaction counter to a second data transaction previously received from the second client device and stored in a memory coupled with the hardware matching processor, wherein the incoming data transaction request does not contain identifying information including the second cryptocurrency account associated with the second entity and the second data transaction does not contain identifying information including the first cryptocurrency account associated with the first entity;   means for determining, based on the receiving, that the first data transaction is counter to the second data transaction; and   means for resolving, using the first virtual payment account and the second virtual payment account based on the determining, at least partially, the incoming data transaction request and the second data transaction request, and storing any unresolved remainder of the first data transaction request or the second data transaction request in the memory.
