Abstract

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, identifying unselected video content items and preconfiguring playback views for unselected video content items. During a warm-up phase, access to the unselected video content items is precoordinated individually with a separate video player, manifests and license/key are retrieved in anticipation for possible selection for playback. Subsequent selection of one of the unselected video content items initiates playback responsive to selection without repeating any of the preconfiguring, preauthorizing or fetching. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A video player, comprising:
a processing system including a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
identifying prospective video content not yet selected for playback by the video player, wherein the identifying occurs while the video player is providing selected video content for presentation via a display device; and
fetching, while the video player is presenting the selected video content, a manifest for the prospective video content without attaching a decoder of the video player to the prospective video content, and
wherein a subsequent selection of the prospective video content for playback initiates an attaching to the decoder of the video player and playback of the prospective video content, without repeating the fetching of the manifest of the prospective video content.

2 . The video player of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
preconfiguring a playback view of the prospective video content without caching the prospective video content.

3 . The video player of claim 2 , wherein the operations further comprise:
preauthorizing access to the prospective video content without caching the prospective video content.

4 . The video player of claim 3 , wherein the preauthorizing access to the prospective video content further comprises establishing a digital rights management session.

5 . The video player of claim 4 , wherein the identifying, the preconfiguring of the playback view of the prospective video content, the preauthorizing access to the prospective video content, and the fetching the manifest for the prospective video content occur without rendering the prospective video content.

6 . The video player of claim 4 , wherein the operations further comprise:
obtaining an encryption key adapted to decrypt the prospective video content.

7 . The video player of claim 3 , wherein the fetching the manifest for the prospective video content occurs continuously without caching the prospective video content.

8 . The video player of claim 1 , wherein the prospective video content is protected according to digital rights management (DRM), the operations further comprise:
establishing a separate DRM session for the prospective video content.

         9 . A method, comprising:
identifying, by a processing system including a processor of a video player, prospective video content not yet selected for playback by the video player, wherein the identifying occurs while the video player is providing selected video content for presentation via a display device; and fetching, by the processing system and while the video player is presenting selected video content, a manifest for the prospective video content, wherein a subsequent selection of the prospective video content initiates an attaching of a decoder of the video player to the prospective video content, without repeating the fetching of the manifest for the prospective video content.

10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
preconfiguring, by the processing system, a playback view of the prospective video content without caching the prospective video content.

11 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
preauthorizing, by the processing system, access to the prospective video content without caching the prospective video content.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the preauthorizing access to the prospective video content further comprises:
fetching, by the processing system, a content license, wherein the content license facilitates establishing a digital rights management session.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising obtaining, by the processing system, an encryption key adapted to decrypt the prospective video content.

14 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the fetching the manifest for the prospective video content occurs without caching video content of the prospective video content.

15 . A non-transitory, machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor of a video player, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
identifying a prospective video program not yet selected for playback by a media processor, wherein the identifying occurs while the media processor is providing a selected video program for presentation via a display device; and fetching, while the media processor is providing the selected video program for presentation, a manifest for the prospective video program, wherein a subsequent selection of the prospective video program initiates an attaching of a decoder of the video player to the prospective video program, without repeating the fetching of the manifest for the prospective video program.

16 . The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:
preconfiguring a playback view of the prospective video program without caching video content of the prospective video program.

17 . The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:
preauthorizing access to the prospective video program without caching video content of the prospective video program.

18 . The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the preauthorizing the access to the prospective video program further comprises establishing a digital rights management session.

19 . The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the operations further comprise:
fetching a content license; and obtaining an encryption key, wherein the content license and the encryption key facilitate establishing a digital rights management session for the prospective video program.

20 . The non-transitory, machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the fetching the manifest occurs continuously without caching video content of the prospective video program.
