Real-Time Recommendations for Altering Content Output

Abstract

According to some aspects described herein, content and service providers in a media delivery network may provide improved recommendations and/or personalize a user's experience based on the real-time activity of that user as well as other users. In this way, ever increasing amounts of content may be optimally managed in a way that provides users with the improved and/or personalized experience.

1 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by a computing device, data indicating times a user command was received during prior outputs of a content item;   determining, based on the data, a time for making a recommendation for the user command; and   causing, at the determined time and during a future output of the content item, output of the recommendation for the user command.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the determining the time comprises determining a time for making a recommendation to mute audio of the content item and is based on times that other users muted the audio during the prior outputs of the content item. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the determining the time comprises determining a time for making a recommendation to adjust audio volume of the content item and is based on times that other users adjusted the audio volume during the prior outputs of the content item. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the determining the time comprises determining a time for making a recommendation to fast-forward the content item and is based on times that other users fast-forwarded the content item during the prior outputs of the content item. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the determining the time comprises determining a time for making a recommendation to replay a portion of the content item and is based on times that other users replayed the portion of the content item during the prior outputs of the content item. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the determining the time comprises determining a time for making a recommendation to skip a portion of the content item and is based on times that other users skipped the portion of the content item during the prior outputs of the content item. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising automatically adjusting, based on the recommendation, the future output of the content item. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein data indicates that prior users adjusted, for a duration, the prior outputs of the content item, and
 wherein causing output of the recommendation comprises causing output of information indicating the duration.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving one or more tags associated with a scene of the content item; and   causing, during output of the scene and based on the one or more tags, automatic adjusting of the future output of the content item.   
     
     
         10 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by a user device, a selection of a content item;   causing, based on the selection, output of the content item; and   causing, during the output of the content item, output of a recommendation to adjust the output of the content item, wherein a time of outputting the recommendation is based on times other users adjusted prior outputs of the content item.   
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the recommendation comprises a recommendation to adjust audio volume of the content item, and
 wherein the time is further based on times that other users adjusted the audio volume during the prior outputs of the content item.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the recommendation comprises a recommendation to fast-forward the content item, and
 wherein the time is further based on times that other users fast-forwarded the content item during the prior outputs of the content item.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the recommendation comprises a recommendation to replay a portion of the content item, and
 wherein the time is further based on times that other users replayed the portion of the content item during the prior outputs of the content item.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the recommendation comprises a recommendation to skip a portion of the content item, and
 wherein the time is further based on times that other users skipped the portion of the content item during the prior outputs of the content item.   
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 10 , further comprising automatically altering, based on the recommendation, the output of the content item. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 10 , further comprising:
 receiving one or more tags associated with a scene of the content item; and   causing, at the user device, during the output of the scene, and based on the one or more tags, adjusting of the output of the content item.   
     
     
         17 . A method comprising:
 causing, by a computing device, output of a content item comprising a plurality of scenes;   receiving a tag associated with one of the plurality of scenes;   receiving information enabling automatic adjusting of output of the content item for one or more types of scenes; and   causing, based on the tag and the information, automatic adjusting of output of the one of the plurality of scenes.   
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein causing automatic adjusting comprises:
 adjusting a playback speed of the content item, a playback location of the content item, or audio of the content item.   
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 17 , further comprising:
 receiving data indicating times a user command was received during prior outputs of the content item;   determining, based on the data, a time for making a recommendation for the user command; and   causing, at the determined time and during the output of the content item, output of the recommendation for the user command.   
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 17 , further comprising:
 receiving data indicating that prior users adjusted, for a duration, prior outputs of the content item; and   causing, during the output of the content item, output of information indicating the duration.
