Abstract

A network device includes a processor and a memory. The processor effectuates operations including instantiating an edge share orchestrator that identifies edge devices including a customer device. Edge share orchestrator also determines that the customer device lacks computing power or functionality to perform at least a portion of an existing or augmented service and identifies at least one additional device of the edge devices capable of providing additional computing power or functionality for performing the at least a portion of the existing service or augmented service associated with the customer device. Edge share orchestrator also meshes the additional computing power or functionality of the at least one additional device with the customer device and performs the at least a portion of the existing or augmented service associated with the customer device using the meshed additional computing power or functionality of the at least one additional device and the customer device.

         3 . The edge share orchestrator of claim 2 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 using the respective opt-in signal to add third party devices to a sharing pool comprising the at least one additional edge device.

         4 . The edge share orchestrator of claim 2 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 using an opt-out signal to remove a device from a sharing pool comprising the at least one additional edge device.

         5 . The edge share orchestrator of claim 1 , wherein the performing the existing service or the augmented service comprises:
 addressing damage to the customer device and loss of performance for the customer device.

         6 . The edge share orchestrator of claim 1 , wherein the performing the existing service or the augmented service comprises:
 normalizing quality of service for the customer device and a temporary deficiency caused by a use of resources of the customer device for another task.

         7 . The edge share orchestrator of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 performing the existing service or the augmented service when the at least one additional edge device is idle.

         8 . A method, comprising:
 identifying, by a processing system including a processor, edge devices including a customer device; determining, by the processing system, that the customer device is unable to perform at least a portion of a particular service, the particular service including at least one of a capability not currently available on the customer device and an enhanced capability currently available on the customer device; identifying, by the processing system, at least one additional device of the edge devices capable of providing additional computing power or functionality for performing the at least a portion of the particular service associated with the customer device; meshing, by the processing system, the additional computing power or functionality of the at least one additional device with the customer device, forming meshed additional computer power or functionality; and performing, by the processing system, the at least a portion of the particular service associated with the customer device using the meshed additional computing power or functionality of the at least one additional device and the customer device.

         9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the meshing additional computing power or functionality comprises:
 balancing, by the processing system, loading and usage of the customer device and the at least one additional device.

         10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the balancing loading and usage of the customer device and the at least one additional device comprises:
 comparing, by the processing system, usage of resources and a customer-defined usage limits.

         11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the balancing loading and usage of the customer device and the at least one additional device comprises:
 comparing, by the processing system, usage of resources and a customer-defined quality of service standard.

         12 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the performing the at least a portion of the particular service associated with the customer device comprises:
 addressing, by the processing system, at least one of damage to the customer device and loss of performance for the customer device.

         13 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the performing the at least a portion of the particular service associated with the customer device comprises:
 normalizing, by the processing system, a quality of service for the customer device.

         14 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the determining that the customer device is unable to perform at least a portion of a particular service comprises:
 identifying, by the processing system, a temporary deficiency caused by a use of resources of the customer device for another task.

         15 . A system comprising:
 a processing system including a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations comprising:
 identifying a plurality of edge devices on a network;
 identifying a customer device on the network;
 determining that the customer device lacks computing resources to perform at least a portion of a particular service, wherein the particular service includes at least one of an existing service or an augmented service;
 identifying at least one edge device of the plurality of edge devices capable of providing additional computing resources for performing the at least a portion of the particular service;
