Visual warning devices

Abstract

Visual warning devices that include illuminated rectilinear arachnid structures that break inattentional blindness of observers. The illuminated rectilinear arachnid structures can be mounted on height-adjustable support posts that extend upright from bases. Alternatively the illuminated rectilinear arachnid structures can be provided with magnets to mount the visual warning devices to metal structures. The illuminated rectilinear arachnid structures include pairs of arms that radiate outward from a central head. The arms and central head can be made from a translucent material through which light can be transmitted to illuminate these structures. Lights for illumination can be provided in the heads. The length of the arms can be adjustable, and the arms can be retracted and/or folded into a storage configuration.

1 . A visual warning device that comprises:
 an illuminated arachnid shape defined by:
 a head portion; and 
 a plurality of arm pairs that project outward from the head portion; 
   wherein the plural arm pairs are retractable or foldable for storage.   
     
     
         2 . A visual warning device according to  claim 1 , wherein the head is supported on a post. 
     
     
         3 . A visual warning device according to  claim 2  wherein the post is supported by a base. 
     
     
         4 . A visual warning device according to  claim 3 , wherein the base has deployable legs. 
     
     
         5 . A visual warning device according to  claim 3 , wherein the base has a geometric shape. 
     
     
         6 . A visual warning device according to  claim 1 , wherein the post has a height that is adjustable. 
     
     
         7 . A visual warning device according to  claim 6 , wherein the height of the post is telescopically adjustable. 
     
     
         8 . A visual warning device according to  claim 1 , wherein the head includes a magnet for attaching the head to a support. 
     
     
         9 . A visual warning device according to  claim 1 , wherein the head includes a bracket for attaching the head to a support. 
     
     
         10 . A visual warning device according to  claim 1 , wherein the head and arms are translucent so that light passes therethrough to illuminate the head and arms. 
     
     
         11 . A visual warning device according to  claim 2 , wherein the head, arms and post are illuminated. 
     
     
         12 . A visual warning device according to  claim 1 , wherein the head and arms reflect light. 
     
     
         13 . A visual warning device according to  claim 2 , wherein the head, arms and post reflect light. 
     
     
         14 . A visual warning device according to  claim 1 , wherein the illuminated arachnid shape further includes a battery. 
     
     
         15 . A visual warning device according to  claim 14 , wherein the head includes a control pad. 
     
     
         16 . A visual warning device according to claim,  3  wherein the base includes a battery 
     
     
         17 . A visual warning device according to  claim 16 , wherein the base includes a control pad. 
     
     
         18 . A visual warning device according to  claim 1 , wherein the plurality of arm pairs provides 8 arms. 
     
     
         19 . A visual warning device according to  claim 1 , wherein the length of each arm is adjustable. 
     
     
         20 . A visual warning device according to  claim 19 , wherein the length of each arm is adjustable over a range of from about 2.5 feet to about 5 feet.
