Abstract

A subsoil tool for ameliorating soil compaction having a shank attached to a toolbar of a tractor, wings on forward wing links pivotally engaged to the shank, and a wing rod pivotally engaged with the forward wing links. The forward wing links are positioned near the bottom of the shank in front of the rear of the shank. The wing rod is positioned behind the shank.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A subsoil tool comprising:
 a) a shank; b) at least one forward wing link comprising a forward wing and pivotally engaged with said shank, said at least one forward wing link comprising a plurality of positions; and c) a wing rod engaged with said at least one forward wing link, said wing rod configured to cause said at least one forward wing link to pivotally move between at least two of said plurality of positions.

2 . The subsoil tool of claim 1 , wherein said wing rod comprises a first position relative to said shank.

3 . The subsoil tool of claim 2 , wherein said at least one forward wing link comprises a first position.

4 . The subsoil tool of claim 3 , wherein said forward wing has a first angle relative to a soil grade.

5 . The subsoil tool of claim 4 , wherein said wing rod comprises a second position relative to said shank.

6 . The subsoil tool of claim 5 , wherein said at least one forward wing link comprises a second position.

7 . The subsoil tool of claim 6 , wherein said forward wing has a second angle relative to said soil grade.

8 . The subsoil tool of claim 7 , further comprising a hydraulic cylinder having a cylinder rod engaged with said wing rod, wherein in said first position of said wing rod, said cylinder rod is maximally retracted.

9 . The subsoil tool of claim 8 , wherein in said second position of said wing rod, said cylinder rod is maximally extended.

10 . The subsoil tool of claim 7 , further comprising a hydraulic cylinder having a cylinder rod engaged with said wing rod, wherein in said first position of said wing rod, said cylinder rod is maximally extended.

11 . The subsoil tool of claim 10 , wherein in said second position of said wing rod, said cylinder rod is maximally retracted.

12 . A method for ameliorating soil compaction using a subsoil tool engaged with a toolbar of a tractor, said subsoil tool comprising (i) at least one shank, (ii) at least one forward wing link pivotally engaged with said shank and comprising a forward wing, and (iii) a wing rod configured to pivotally move said at least one forward wing link, said method comprising the steps of:
 a) causing said forward wing to have a first angle relative to a soil grade; and b) causing said forward wing to have a second angle relative to said soil grade.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein said step of causing said forward wing to have said second angle relative to said soil grade comprises changing a position of said at least one forward wing link.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said step of causing said forward wing to have said second angle relative to said soil grade comprises extending a hydraulic cylinder of said toolbar.

15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said step of causing said forward wing to have said second angle relative to said soil grade comprises retracting a hydraulic cylinder of said toolbar.

16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said step of causing said forward wing to have said second angle relative to said soil grade comprises extending a cylinder rod of a hydraulic cylinder engaged with said wing rod.

17 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said step of causing said forward wing to have said second angle relative to said soil grade comprises retracting a cylinder rod of a hydraulic cylinder engaged with said wing rod.

18 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said step of causing said forward wing to have said second angle relative to said soil grade comprises rotating a power link engaged with said wing rod in a clockwise direction.

19 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said step of causing said forward wing to have said second angle relative to said soil grade comprises rotating a power link engaged with said wing rod in a counterclockwise direction.

20 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said at least one forward wing link comprises a first position and a second position.

21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein said step of changing a position of said at least one forward wing link comprises moving said at least one forward wing link from said first position to said second position.

22 . The method of claim 20 , wherein said step of changing a position of said at least one forward wing link comprises moving said at least one forward wing link from said second position to said first position.
