Claims

Abstract

This disclosure describes, in part, techniques for controlling network applications. For instance, a remote system may send, over a network, data representing a state of an application to a display device, such as a television. The remote system may then receive, over the network, input data from a control device. The input data may represent one or more inputs received by the control device. Using the input data, the remote system may update the state of the application. The remote system may then send, to the display device, data representing the updated state of the application. In some instances, the remote system may further send, to the control device, audio data representing sound corresponding to the updated state of the application. The control device may synchronize outputting of the sound with the displaying the updated state of the application by the display device.

         2 . A gaming controller comprising:
 an input component;   one or more processors; and   one or more computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
 storing first data representing settings associated with a network; 
 establishing a connection with the network based at least in part on the first data; 
 receiving, over the network and from a remote system, second data representing a first state of an application; 
 receiving, using the input component, an input associated with the application; 
 sending, over the network and to the remote system, third data representing the input; and 
 receiving, over the network and from the remote system, fourth data representing a second state of the application. 
   
     
     
         3 . The gaming controller as recited in  claim 2 , wherein the second data comprises:
 video data representing the first state of the application; and   audio data representing sound corresponding to the first state of the application.   
     
     
         4 . The gaming controller as recited in  claim 2 , wherein the application is a game, the first state of the application includes an object located at a first position within a gaming environment, and the second state of the application includes the object located at a second position within the gaming environment, the second position being different from the first position. 
     
     
         5 . The gaming controller of  claim 2 , the one or more computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform further operations comprising:
 receiving, over the network and from the remote system, fifth data representing one or more applications, the one or more applications including the application; and   receiving, using the input component, an additional input;   sending, over the network and to the remote system, sixth data representing the additional input,   wherein receiving the second data from the remote system is based at least in part on sending the sixth data.   
     
     
         6 . The gaming controller of  claim 2 , further comprising a peripheral device, and the one or more computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform further operations comprising:
 receiving, from the peripheral device, an additional input associated with the application;   sending, over the network and to the remote system, fifth data representing the additional input; and   receiving, over the network and from the remote system, sixth data representing a third state of the application.   
     
     
         7 . The gaming controller of  claim 2 , further comprising a peripheral device, wherein:
 the fourth data comprises video data representing the second state of the application and audio data representing sound corresponding to the second state of the application; and   and the one or more computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform further operations comprising:
 sending the video data to a display at a first time; 
 sending, to the peripheral device, the audio data; 
 sending, to the peripheral device, a timestamp including an instruction to output the sound at a second time, the second time being within a threshold period of time to the first time. 
   
     
     
         8 . The gaming controller of  claim 2 , wherein the fourth data comprises video data representing the second state of the application and audio data representing sound corresponding to the second state of the application, and the one or more computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform further operations comprising:
 sending, to the display device, the video data;   sending, to the display, a timestamp including an instruction to display the second state of the application at a first time; and   causing a speaker component to output the sound at a second time, the second time being within a threshold period of time to the first time.   
     
     
         9 . A method comprising:
 storing, by an electronic device, first data representing settings associated with a network;   establishing a connection from the electronic device to the network based at least in part on the first data;   receiving, over the network and from a remote system, second data representing a first state of an application;   receiving, by an input component of the electronic device, an input associated with the application;   sending, over the network and to the remote system, third data representing the input; and   receiving, over the network and from the remote system, fourth data representing a second state of the application.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the input comprises at least one of the following:
 a selection of an element displayed on a screen of the electronic device;   an audio input received by a microphone component of the electronic device; or   a peripheral input received by a peripheral device associated with the electronic device.   
     
     
         11 . The method as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the second data comprises:
 first video data representing the first state of the application; and   first audio data representing sound corresponding to the first state of the application.   
     
     
         12 . The method as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the application is a game, the first state of the application includes an object located at a first position within a gaming environment, and the second state of the application includes the object located at a second position within the gaming environment, the second position being different from the first position. 
     
     
         13 . The method as recited in  claim 9 , further comprising:
 receiving, over the network and from the remote system, fifth data representing one or more applications, the one or more applications including the application;   receiving, by the input component of the electronic device, an additional input; and   sending, over the network and to the remote system, sixth data representing the additional input,   wherein receiving the second data from the remote system is based at least in part on sending the sixth data.   
     
     
         14 . The method as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the fourth data comprises video data representing the second state of the application and audio data representing sound corresponding to the second state of the application, and the method further comprising:
 causing a display to present the second state of the application represented by the video data at a first time;   sending, to a peripheral device associated with the electronic device, the audio data; and   sending, to the peripheral device, a timestamp including an instruction to output the sound at a second time on the peripheral device, the second time being within a threshold period of time to the first time.   
     
     
         15 . The method as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the fourth data comprises video data representing the second state of the application and audio data representing sound corresponding to the second state of the application, and the method further comprising:
 sending, to a display, the video data;   sending, to the display, a timestamp including an instruction to display the second state of the application at a first time; and   causing a speaker component of the electronic device to output the sound at a second time, the second time being within a threshold period of time to the first time.   
     
     
         16 . An electronic device comprising:
 at least one database storing first data representing settings associated with a network;   an input component for receiving an input associated with an application;   one or more processors; and   one or more computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
 establishing a connection to the network based at least in part on the first data; 
 receiving, over the network and from a remote system, second data representing a first state of the application; 
 receiving the input associated with the application; 
 sending, over the network and to the remote system, third data representing the input; and 
 receiving, over the network and from the remote system, fourth data representing a second state of the application. 
   
     
     
         17 . The electronic device as recited in  claim 16 , wherein the second data comprises:
 first video data representing the first state of the application; and   first audio data representing sound corresponding to the first state of the application.   
     
     
         18 . The electronic device as recited in  claim 16 , wherein the application is a game, the first state of the application includes an object located at a first position within a gaming environment, and the second state of the application includes the object located at a second position within the gaming environment, the second position being different from the first position. 
     
     
         19 . The electronic device as recited in  claim 16 , the one or more computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform further operations comprising:
 receiving, over the network and from the remote system, fifth data representing one or more applications, the one or more applications including the application;   receiving, by the input component, an additional input; and   sending, over the network and to the remote system, sixth data representing the additional input,   wherein receiving the second data from the remote system is based at least in part on sending the sixth data.   
     
     
         20 . The electronic device as recited in  claim 16 , wherein the fourth data comprises video data representing the second state of the application and audio data representing sound corresponding to the second state of the application, and the one or more computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform further operations comprising:
 causing a display of the electronic device to present the second state of the application represented by the video data at a first time;   sending, to a peripheral device associated with the electronic device, the audio data; and   sending, to the peripheral device, a timestamp including an instruction to output the sound at a second time on the peripheral device, the second time being within a threshold period of time to the first time.   
     
     
         21 . The electronic device as recited in  claim 16 , wherein the fourth data comprises video data representing the second state of the application and audio data representing sound corresponding to the second state of the application, and the one or more computer-readable media storing further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform further operations comprising:
 sending, to a display associated with the electronic device, the video data;   sending, to the display, a timestamp including an instruction to display the second state of the application at a first time; and   causing a speaker component of the electronic device to output the sound at a second time, the second time being within a threshold period of time to the first time.
