Abstract
A mobile edge computing (MEC) architecture can facilitate utilization of virtual multi-point non-internet protocol (IP) connections in radio access networks (RAN). Thus, the same mobile device can be addressed with multiple radio access technologies (RATs). The MEC can provide service continuity in multi-access technologies using virtual session, and the MEC can terminate a main session between a core network and the MEC, for the mobile device, via a single IP address, Based on the services and the states of the access network in the multi-access environment, the MEC can dynamically select the RAT and access point as the target to deliver the service over the RAN.

receiving, by network equipment comprising a processor, from a user equipment, a request for a service; establishing, by the network equipment, a virtual session with the user equipment to provide the service; and generating, by the network equipment, an access identifier based on a user equipment identifier of the user equipment, a session identifier of the virtual session, and a radio access technology identifier of a radio access technology employed for the virtual session.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising routing, by the network equipment, communications from the service to the user equipment using the access identifier.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the establishing comprises selecting the radio access technology from a group of radio access technologies based on the service.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the access identifier uniquely identifies the virtual session.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the radio access technology is a satellite access technology.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the radio access technology is a cellular access technology.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the establishing comprises authenticating the user equipment for communication with the radio access technology.
8 . Network equipment, comprising:
a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
receiving, from a mobile device, a request for a service;
establishing a virtual session with the mobile device to provide the service; and
generating a logical identifier based on a mobile device identifier of the mobile device, a session identifier of the virtual session, and a radio access technology identifier of a radio access technology employed for the virtual session.
9 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:
routing transmissions from the service to the mobile device using the logical identifier.
10 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein the establishing comprises selecting the radio access technology from a group of radio access technologies based on the service.
11 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein the logical identifier uniquely identifies the virtual session.
12 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein the radio access technology is a fifth generation cellular access technology.
13 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein the radio access technology is a long term evolution cellular access technology.
14 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein the establishing comprises authenticating the mobile device for communication with the radio access technology.
15 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor of network equipment, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
receiving, from a user equipment, a request for a network service; establishing a virtual session with the user equipment to provide the network service; and generating a logical identifier based on a user equipment identifier of the user equipment, a session identifier of the virtual session, and a radio access technology identifier of a radio access technology employed for the virtual session.
16 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:
routing messages from the network service to the user equipment using the logical identifier.
17 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the establishing comprises selecting the radio access technology from a group of radio access technologies based on the network service.
18 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the logical identifier uniquely identifies the virtual session.
19 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the establishing comprises selecting the radio access technology from a group of radio access technologies based on respective states of access points associated with the group of radio access technologies.
