Abstract

The disclosed subject matter provides a proactive device initiated mechanism for notifying a network device regarding device supported machine-type communication (MTC) features. In one embodiment, a method is provided that includes identifying, by a device comprising a processor, machine-type communication related parameters of the device using a subscriber identity module application stored on a subscriber identity module card of the device. The method can further include generating, by the device using the subscriber identity module application, parameter information that identifies the machine-type communication related parameters of the device based on the identifying, and sending, by the device, the parameter information to a network server device of a wireless communication network based on the generating.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A method, comprising:
facilitating, by network equipment comprising a processor, receiving parameter information from a device defining a machine-type communication parameter of the device in response to a determination that parameter information was previously excluded from a terminal support data structure of a subscriber identity module card of the device; and facilitating, by the network equipment, provisioning of a machine-type communication service for the device based on the parameter information.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein facilitating the receiving comprises facilitating the receiving via an application associated with the subscriber identity module card in response to the determination being made by the application.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the receiving is responsive to an activation of the application based on a start-up operation of the device or a reset operation of the device.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein facilitating the receiving comprises facilitating the receiving the parameter information via a mobile originated short message service class 2 message that was generated by the application.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein facilitating the provisioning comprises forwarding, by the network equipment, the parameter information to additional network equipment other than the network equipment.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
charging, by the network equipment, a user account associated with the device for the provisioning of the machine-type communication services based on the parameter information.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the machine-type communication parameter comprises a defined machine-type communication category of the device.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the defined machine-type communication category relates to an uplink throughput of the device and a downlink throughput of the device.

9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the receiving comprises receiving the parameter information as a single data byte that represents the defined machine-type communication category of the device.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the machine-type communication parameter comprises a defined machine-type communication feature supported by the device.

         11 . A system, comprising:
a processor operatively coupled to network equipment, and a memory operatively coupled to the processor that stores executable instructions; wherein the processor executes the executable instructions to perform operations comprising:
receiving parameter information from a device defining a machine-type communication parameter of the device in response to a determination that parameter information was previously excluded from a terminal support data structure of a subscriber identity module card of the device; and
provisioning a machine-type communication service for the device based on the parameter information.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the receiving is facilitated by an application associated with the subscriber identity module card in response to the determination being made by the application.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the receiving is responsive to an activation of the application based on a start-up operation of the device or a reset operation of the device.

14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the receiving comprises receiving the parameter information via a mobile originated short message service class 2 message that was generated by the application.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the provisioning comprises sending, to the network equipment, the parameter information for the network equipment to forward the parameter information to additional network equipment other than the network equipment.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise:
charging a user account associated with the device for the provisioning of the machine-type communication services based on the receiving.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the machine-type communication parameter comprises a defined machine-type communication category of the device.

18 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the receiving comprises receiving the parameter information as a single data byte that represents the defined machine-type communication category of the device.

19 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor of network equipment, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
receiving parameter information from a device defining a machine-type communication parameter of the device in response to a determination that parameter information was previously excluded from a terminal support data structure of a subscriber identity module card of the device; and provisioning a machine-type communication service for the device based on the parameter information.

20 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the receiving is facilitated using an application associated with the subscriber identity module card in response to the determination being made by the application.
