Abstract

Systems and methods for dynamically establishing and adjusting domain name registration requirements to adaptively control registration activities being performed in response to domain name registration requests include a registration controller communicatively coupled to a registry server that maintains a domain name registry. The registry server receives a request to register a requested domain name, and the registration controller tokenizes the requested domain name into a set of domain tokens including one or more substrings of the requested domain name, estimates a demand for the requested domain name based on the set of domain tokens, establishes registration requirements for completing a registration of the requested domain name based on the estimated demand for the requested domain name, obtains a first feedback indicating that the requested domain name is not registered at the one or more registration requirements, and adjusts the one or more registration requirements in response to the first feedback to provide one or more adjusted registration requirements.

What is claimed is:

         1 . A system for dynamically setting variable requirements for registering domain names, comprising:
 a Domain Name System (DNS) registry server that receives a request to register a requested domain name, wherein the DNS registry server maintains a registry associating Internet protocol addresses with respective domain names; and a registration controller communicatively coupled to the DNS registry server, wherein the registration controller includes a processor and non-transitory memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the registration controller to perform operations comprising:
 tokenizing the requested domain name into a set of domain tokens including one or more substrings of the requested domain name;
 estimating a demand for the requested domain name based on the set of domain tokens;
 establishing one or more registration requirements for completing a registration of the requested domain name based on the estimated demand for the requested domain name;
 obtaining a first feedback indicating that the requested domain name is not registered at the one or more registration requirements; and
 adjusting the one or more registration requirements in response to the first feedback to provide one or more adjusted registration requirements.
