Runway arrangement
Abstract
A runway arrangement comprising: a first runway section ( 202 - 1 ) designated as a landing runway section; a second runway section ( 202 - 2 ) designated as a take-off runway section; and a sterile safety area ( 210 ); wherein the first and second runway sections are linked by the sterile safety area ( 210 ); the runway arrangement comprising a missed approach point for aircraft due to land on the first runway section, displaced from the start of the second runway section ( 202 - 2 ) by a distance greater than H/tan θ 1 ; where H is a safe turning height and θ 1 is an angle of ascent following a missed approach; wherein H is greater than 150 m and θ 1 is greater than 2°.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A runway arrangement comprising:
a first runway section; a second runway section; and a sterile safety area that is marked as not to be used for taxiing; wherein the second runway section is laterally offset from the first runway section; and wherein the sterile safety area comprises a first portion in prolongation of the first runway section and a second portion in prolongation of the second runway section, the first portion longitudinally overlapping with the second portion.
2 . The runway arrangement according to claim 1 wherein the first runway section is designated a landing section directed towards the overlapping section and the second runway section is designated a take off section directed away from the overlapping section.
3 . The runway arrangement according to claim 1 wherein the overlapping section is between 300 m and 900 m in length.
4 . The runway arrangement according to claim 1 wherein the second runway section is laterally offset from the first runway section by at least one of: between a quarter and double the width of the first runway section, and between 50 m and 100 m.
5 . The runway arrangement according to claim 1 further comprising a taxiway outside of the sterile safety area so as to allow access across the first runway section to the proximal end of the second runway section.
6 . The runway arrangement according to claim 1 wherein the second runway section is substantially parallel to the first runway section.
7 . The runway arrangement according to claim 1 wherein the second runway section is disposed at an angle to the first runway section and/or wherein the second runway section is disposed at substantially 0.25-10 degrees to the first runway section.
8 . The runway arrangement according to claim 1 wherein the first portion and the second portion of the sterile safety area overlap along the entirety of the length of the first portion and the second portion.
9 . The runway arrangement according to claim 1 wherein the first portion and the second portion are contiguous.
10 . The runway arrangement according to claim 1 wherein the first and second portion are unconnected and/or wherein the first portion comprises a first safety area and the second portion comprises a separate second safety area.
11 . A runway arrangement comprising:
a first runway section; a second runway section extending substantially in prolongation of the first runway section; and an intermediate safety area that is marked as not to be used for taxiing; wherein the first runway section and the second runway section are linked by the intermediate safety area.
12 . The runway arrangement according to claim 11 wherein the first runway section is designated a landing runway section and the second runway section is designated a take-off runway section.
13 . The runway arrangement according to claim 11 wherein the intermediate safety area is at least 175 m in length.
14 . The runway arrangement according to claim 11 wherein the intermediate safety area is between 240 m and 600 m in length.
15 . The runway arrangement according to claim 11 wherein an airport terminal area is situated adjacent the intermediate safety area.
16 . The runway arrangement according to claim 11 comprising a landing threshold which is substantially further along the runway than the start of the runway.
17 . The runway arrangement according to claim 16 wherein the landing threshold is between 1 km and 5 km distal from the start of the landing runway section.
18 . The runway arrangement according to claim 11 further comprising a taxiway outside of the intermediate safety area so as to allow access across the first runway section to the proximal end of the second runway section.
19 . A method of constructing a runway arrangement, the method comprising:
providing a first runway section; providing a second runway section; providing a sterile safety area; and marking the sterile safety area as not to be used for taxiing; wherein the second runway section is laterally offset from the first runway section; and wherein the sterile safety area comprises a first portion in prolongation of the first runway section and a second portion in prolongation of the second runway section, the first portion longitudinally overlapping with the second portion.
20 . A method of constructing a runway arrangement, the method comprising:
providing a first runway section; providing a second runway section extending in prolongation of the first runway section; providing an intermediate safety area such that the first runway section and the second runway section are separated by the intermediate safety area; and marking the intermediate safety area to indicate that the intermediate section is not available for taxiing.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
