Adaptive technologies for vetiver grass propagation and transplantation and related methods of repurposing vetiver grass

Abstract

Technologies and techniques that reduce cost and time for propagation, transplantation and harvesting of Vetiver Grass for multiple applications. Tools, equipment, systems and processes to propagate, transplant and harvest Vetiver Grass that will promote the rapid implementation of sustainable, large-scale Vetiver plantations in wealthy and impoverished countries alike.

1 . A genetically modified cold tolerant Vetiver grass plant. 
     
     
         2 . The genetically modified cold tolerant Vetiver grass plant of  claim 1 , wherein the plant is modified to be cold tolerant for use in colder climates, such as the northern states of the United States. 
     
     
         3 . A Vetiver Grass harvester comprising:
 a grass mower unit configured to mow Vetiver Grass;   cutting head unit configured to cut Vetiver Grass;   chain conveyer unit attached to the cutting head unit at first end thereof; and   a detachable hopper attached to the chain conveyor unit at a second end thereof,   wherein the chain conveyor unit is configured to transport cut Vetiver Grass from the cutting head unit to the detachable hopper.   
     
     
         4 . The Vetiver Grass harvester of  claim 3 , wherein the chain conveyer unit is configured to be directed to convey the cut Vetiver Grass from the ground to the detachable hopper set in the harvester. 
     
     
         5 . The Vetiver Grass harvester of  claim 3 , wherein the harvester is used in a  3 -stage process comprising:
 harvesting and baling of the Vetiver Grass;   harvesting the crown of the Vetiver Grass plant into bare root slips and processing the vetiver plant into slips or tillers; and   mechanically planting the processed vetiver slips or tillers using a semiautomatic or automatic planter attached to the harvester.   
     
     
         6 . The Vetiver Grass harvester of  claim 5 , wherein the harvester is self-propelled.
