Cutting edge assembly for a work tool associated with a machine
Abstract
A cutting edge assembly is disclosed. The cutting edge assembly may include an attachment element configured to be attached to a work tool of a machine, wherein the attachment element is formed from a first metal alloy, and wherein the attachment element includes a plurality of retention structures that extend from an attachment end of the attachment element toward a cutting edge end of the attachment element. The cutting edge assembly may include a wear element configured to form a cutting edge of the work tool, wherein the wear element is formed from a second metal alloy that is different from the first metal alloy, and wherein the wear element is cast over the plurality of retention structures to bond the wear element to the attachment element.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A cutting edge assembly comprising:
an attachment element comprising one or more retention structures, wherein the one or more retention structures include one or more of one or more serrated sides, one or more toothed sides, or one or more undulating sides; and a wear element comprising one or more indentations, wherein the one or more indentations are trapezoidal or semicircular, and wherein the one or more retention structures form one or more of a mechanical bond or a metallurgical bond between the attachment element and the wear element.
2 . The cutting edge assembly of claim 1 ,
wherein the attachment element is formed from a first metal alloy, and wherein the wear element is formed from a second metal alloy that is different from the first metal alloy.
3 . The cutting edge assembly of claim 2 ,
wherein the first metal alloy is steel, and wherein the second metal alloy is white iron.
4 . The cutting edge assembly of claim 1 , wherein the one or more retention structures include the one or more serrated sides.
5 . The cutting edge assembly of claim 1 , wherein the one or more retention structures include a plurality of retention structures.
6 . The cutting edge assembly of claim 1 , wherein the one or more indentations are trapezoidal.
7 . The cutting edge assembly of claim 1 , wherein the one or more retention structures form the mechanical bond between the attachment element and the wear element.
8 . The cutting edge assembly of claim 1 ,
wherein the one or more retention structures include the one or more serrated sides, wherein the one or more indentations are trapezoidal, and wherein the one or more retention structures form the mechanical bond between the attachment element and the wear element.
9 . The cutting edge assembly of claim 8 ,
wherein the attachment element is formed from steel, and wherein the wear element is formed from white iron.
10 . An assembly comprising:
an attachment element including one or more retention structures,
wherein the one or more retention structures include serrated sides, and
wherein the attachment element is formed from steel; and
a wear element,
wherein the one or more retention structures form one or more of a mechanical bond or a metallurgical bond between the attachment element and the wear element.
11 . The assembly of claim 10 , wherein the one or more retention structures include a plurality of retention structures.
12 . The assembly of claim 10 , wherein the wear element comprises one or more indentations.
13 . The assembly of claim 12 , wherein the one or more indentations are trapezoidal.
14 . The assembly of claim 10 , wherein the wear element is formed from a metal alloy that is different from the steel.
15 . The assembly of claim 14 , wherein the metal alloy is white iron.
16 . An assembly comprising:
an attachment element; a wear element comprising one or more indentations,
wherein the one or more indentations are trapezoidal, and
wherein the wear element is formed from white iron; and
one or more of a mechanical bond or a metallurgical bond between the attachment element and the wear element.
17 . The assembly of claim 16 , wherein the attachment element is formed from a metal alloy that is different from the white iron.
18 . The assembly of claim 17 , wherein the metal alloy is steel.
19 . The assembly of claim 18 ,
wherein the assembly includes the metallurgical bond between the attachment element and the wear element, and wherein the metallurgical bond is between the white iron and the steel.
20 . The assembly of claim 16 ,
wherein the attachment element includes a plurality of retention structures, wherein the plurality of retention structures include serrated sides, and wherein the plurality of retention structures form the mechanical bond and the metallurgical bond between the attachment element and the wear element.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
