Abstract

Various embodiments are directed to using a near-filed communication (NFC) contactless card to perform one or more transactions within a vehicle. For example, a user may load value (money, funds, digital currency, etc.) onto an in-vehicle device (transponder, badge, card, etc.) by performing one-tap authentication or one-tap payment, or both, via the contactless card. Thus, even under time-constrained circumstances, payment may be loaded to the in-vehicle device in a quick, efficient, and safe manner.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
 establishing, by a contactless card, near field communication (NFC) with an NFC-based device;   sending, by the contactless card, user authentication information to the NFC-based device, wherein the user authentication information is associated with a user of the contactless card;   in response to the sending of the user authentication information, causing the user to gain access or entry to a physical space, and   wherein the NFC-based device communicates with one or more remote computing devices for authenticating the user authentication information received from the contactless card and determining whether the user is authorized to gain access or entry to the physical space.   
     
     
         2 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , comprising:
 generating, by the contactless card, a cryptogram comprising the authentication information to send to the NFC-based device.   
     
     
         3 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 2 , wherein the authentication information comprises a counter value, an identification value, a random number, or any combination thereof. 
     
     
         4 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 2 , comprising encrypting, by the contactless card, the cryptogram with a key and encryption function stored on the contactless card. 
     
     
         5 . The computer-implemented of  claim 1 , wherein the cryptogram is generated by a Java card applet executing on processing circuitry of the contactless card. 
     
     
         6 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , comprising:
 receiving, by the contactless card, a request to provide payment from another NFC-based device; and   sending, by the contactless card, payment information to provide a payment to the another NFC-based device.   
     
     
         7 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein the NFC-based device is an access transponder configured to process a request to gain access to the physical space. 
     
     
         8 . A contactless card, comprising:
 a wireless interface;   memory configured to store instructions; and   processing circuitry configured to execute the instructions, that when executed, cause the processing circuitry to:   initiate, via the wireless interface, a short range communication exchange with a receiving device;   receive, via the wireless interface, a request from the receiving device; and   send, via the wireless interface, authentication information to the receiving device, the authentication information configured to authenticate the contactless card to gain access to a physical space, and   wherein the receiving device is configured to communicate with a system to perform one or more authentication operations on the authentication information received from the contactless card to determine whether to permit or deny access to the physical space.   
     
     
         9 . The contactless card of  claim 8 , wherein the instructions are configured to cause the processing circuitry to generate a cryptogram comprising the authentication information to send to the NFC-based device. 
     
     
         10 . The contactless card of  claim 8 , wherein the authentication information comprises a counter value, an identification value, a random number, or any combination thereof. 
     
     
         11 . The contactless card of  claim 9 , wherein the instructions are configured to cause the processing circuitry to encrypt the cryptogram with a key and encryption function stored on the contactless card. 
     
     
         12 . The contactless card of  claim 8 , wherein the cryptogram is generated by a Java card applet executing on processing circuitry of the contactless card. 
     
     
         13 . The contactless card of  claim 8 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the processing circuitry to:
 receive, via the wireless interface, a request from a payment device; and   send, via the wireless interface, payment information to the payment device.   
     
     
         14 . The contactless card of  claim 8 , wherein the receiving device is an access transponder configured to process a request to gain access to the physical space by communicating the authentication information to one or more other systems to authenticate the contactless card. 
     
     
         15 . The contactless card of  claim 8 , wherein the wireless interface comprises a near-field communication (NFC) interface, a Bluetooth interface, or a Wi-Fi interface. 
     
     
         16 . The contactless card of  claim 8 , wherein the authentication comprises a unique alphanumeric identifier assigned to a user of the contactless card, and the unique identifier is configured to distinguish the user from other users. 
     
     
         17 . A computer-readable storage medium including instructions that, when executed, cause processing circuitry of a contactless card to:
 receive, via a wireless interface, a request for data from a receiving device;   determine, based on the request, the data comprising authentication information, payment information, or a combination thereof to send to the receiving device; and   send, via the wireless interface, the data to the receiving device, and   wherein the receiving device is configured to process the data to enable a user to access a space, provide payment, or perform a combination thereof.   
     
     
         18 . The computer-readable storage medium of  claim 17 , wherein the instructions are configured to cause the processing circuitry to generate a cryptogram comprising the data to send to the receiving device. 
     
     
         19 . The computer-readable storage medium of  claim 17 , wherein the authentication information comprises a counter value, an identification value, a random number, or any combination thereof. 
     
     
         20 . The computer-readable storage medium of  claim 17 , wherein the receiving device is an access transponder.
