Abstract

Frame systems include a plurality of connected frame units. Each frame unit includes a first end plate connected to a first end of a frame element a second end plate connected to a second end of the frame element. The plurality of frame units is movable between a first state and a second state, wherein in the first state, the plurality of frame units has a first width along a width axis of the plurality of frame units, and a first frame unit and a second frame unit of the plurality overlap by a first overlap amount along the width axis. In the second state, the plurality of frame units has a second width along the width axis and the first frame unit and the second frame unit overlap by a second overlap amount along the width axis.

I claim:

         1 . A system comprising:
a plurality of connected frame units, each frame unit comprising:
a first end plate connected to a first end of a frame element; and
a second end plate connected to a second end of the frame element,
wherein the plurality of frame units is movable between a first state and a second state, wherein in the first state, the plurality of frame units has a first width along a width axis of the plurality of frame units, and a first frame unit and a second frame unit of the plurality of frame units overlap by a first overlap amount along the width axis, wherein in the second state, the plurality of frame units has a second width along the width axis and the first frame unit and the second frame unit overlap by a second overlap amount along the width axis, wherein a connector connects with the frame element of the first frame unit and with the frame element of the second frame unit, wherein the connector connects the first frame unit to the second frame unit by translating along at least one of the frame element of the first frame unit or the frame element of the second frame unit.

2 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a first driven wheel that is supported by at least one frame unit of the plurality of frame units.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the first driven wheel is coupled with a steering system.

4 . The system of claim 2 , further comprising a second driven wheel that is supported by at least one other frame unit.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the second driven wheel is coupled with a steering system configured to steer the second driven wheel independently of the first driven wheel.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the first driven wheel is coupled with a second steering system.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the connector comprises a first aperture configured to receive the frame element of the first frame unit therethrough, and a second aperture configured to receive the frame element of the second frame unit therethrough.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the connector translatably connects the first frame unit to the second frame unit by translating along at least one of the frame element of the first frame unit or the frame element of the second frame unit.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the frame element is a tube, a bar, or abeam.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the connector comprises a first aperture configured to receive the frame element of the first frame unit therethrough, and a second aperture configured to receive the frame element of the second frame unit therethrough.

11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the first aperture is formed in a first retainer of the connector, and wherein the second aperture is formed in a second retainer of the connector.

12 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the connector pivotably connects the first frame unit and the second frame unit.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first retainer is pivotably coupled to the second retainer.

14 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the frame element of each frame unit of the plurality of frame units has a cross sectional shape that is cylindrical, an I-shape, an S-shape, a Z-shape, a C-shape, a Tee-shape, a single angle section, or a double angle section.

15 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of frame units comprises a third frame unit translatably connected by a second connector to the first frame unit or to the second frame unit.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first retainer comprises a first part and a second part, wherein the first part reversibly couples with the second part around the frame element of the first frame unit.

         17 . A system comprising:
a plurality of connected frame units, each frame unit comprising:
a first end plate connected to a first end of a frame element; and
a second end plate connected to a second end of the frame element,
wherein the plurality of frame units is movable between a first state and a second state, wherein in the first state, the plurality of frame units has a first width along a width axis of the plurality of frame units, and a first frame unit and a second frame unit of the plurality of frame units overlap by a first overlap amount along the width axis, wherein in the second state, the plurality of frame units has a second width along the width axis and the first frame unit and the second frame unit overlap by a second overlap amount along the width axis, wherein a connector comprises a first retainer pivotably coupled to a second retainer.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein a first aperture formed through the first retainer receives the frame element of the first frame unit therethrough, and wherein a second aperture formed through the second retainer receives the frame element of the second frame unit therethrough.

19 . The system of claim 17 , wherein a pivot axis between the first retainer and the second retainer is perpendicular to the first aperture and the second aperture

20 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the first retainer comprises a first part and a second part, wherein the first part reversibly couples with the second part around the frame element of the first frame unit.
