Abstract

A highly effective method for treating refractile tinnitus by repeatedly subjecting a subject having tinnitus to a specific calculated sound comprising a group of related waveforms.

1 . A method for reducing tinnitus symptoms, said method comprising identifying a subject having tinnitus, said subject perceiving a perceived tinnitus tone, and performing the following steps:
 (i) providing to the subject a tone between 10 Hz and 20000 Hz,   (ii) indicating, by the subject, said tone as being either higher or lower in tone than the perceived tinnitus tone,   (iii) adjusting the tone either up or down to bring it closer to the perceived tinnitus   indicating, by the subject, said tone as being either higher or lower in tone than the perceived tinnitus tone,   (v) repeating steps iii-iv until an approximate a match is found such that no further adjustments in tone produce a perceived tone match (“personalized tinnitus tone”),   (vi) storing a personalized tinnitus tone information including wavelength, frequency and amplitude, in a memory,   (vii) generating by means of computer software, a plurality of waveforms forming a waveform cluster, wherein the waveform cluster is defined as a group of at least three waves of the same similar amplitude but varying frequency comprising (i) a base frequency which is identical to a personalized tinnitus tone, (ii) a wave with a frequency n % above the base frequency, and the base frequency, and (iii) a wave with a frequency n % below the base frequency, wherein n is an number between 0.5     ding to the subject a tone comprising the waveform cluster in (vii), on a set schedule, over a set period of time, thereby effecting a reduction in tinnitus symptoms, and measuring and recording the reduction in tinnitus symptoms.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1  wherein steps iii-iv are repeated at least 5 times to achieve the personalized tinnitus tone. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1  further providing in step viii, varying the amplitude of the tone provided to the subject with the aim of identifying the amplitude most effective for the reduction in tinnitus symptoms. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1  wherein, in step (vii), in the waveform cluster, all waveforms are sine waveforms. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1  wherein, in (vii), in the waveform cluster, all waveforms are square waveforms. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1  wherein in (vii), in the waveform cluster, all waveforms are saw-tooth waveforms. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1  wherein, in (vii), in the waveform cluster, all waveforms are ramp waveforms. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1  wherein, in (vii), in the waveform cluster, all waveforms are triangular waveforms. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1  wherein, in (vii), in the waveform cluster, all waveforms are selected from a group consisting of: sine, square, ramp, saw-tooth and triangular waveforms. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the waveform cluster comprises a root pitch frequency, R of 3000-7000 Hz, a floor pitch frequency F, of 1000-5000 Hz and a ceiling pitch frequency C, of 5000-20000 Hz. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the subject is provided with the waveform cluster of step (xvi) for 15-60 minutes, followed by 45-180 minutes of the perceived tinnitus tone pure personalized tinnitus tone. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12  wherein the subject is provided with the waveform cluster of step (xvi) for 10-30 minutes, followed by 20-40 minutes of the perceived tinnitus tone pure personalized tinnitus tone. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13  wherein the subject is subjected to the method treatment is provided 3-5 times a week.
