Abstract

Provided herein are systems and methods for regenerative braking. A method for regenerative braking may comprise converting mechanical energy from a braking event to electrical energy. The electrical energy may activate a photon battery comprising phosphorescent material.

         31 . An apparatus for electrical energy generation in a vehicle, comprising:
 a light source, powered by electrical energy generated by a conversion of mechanical energy from a braking event in the vehicle, configured to emit optical energy from a surface of said light source;   a phosphorescent material in optical communication with the light source and configured to (i) absorb said optical energy from the light source, and (ii) emit optical energy at a different wavelength from the optical energy from the light source; and   a photovoltaic cell in optical communication with the phosphorescent material and configured to (i) absorb the optical energy emitted by the phosphorescent material, and (ii) generate electrical power from optical energy.
