Applications for promethazine in preparing anti-liver cancer and/or colon cancer and/or lung cancer products

Abstract

This invention provides uses for promethazine in the preparation of products to treat liver cancer and/or lung cancer. From carrying out cancer drug repositioning for the FDA- and CFDA-approved drug promethazine, experiments for this invention show, based on screening of non-anti-cancer drugs for various cancer cell lines (tissue types) and mutation sites, that promethazine has a new use as an anti-liver cancer and/or lung cancer medication, thus achieving a new purpose for an old drug.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for inhibiting the proliferation of liver cancer and/or lung cancer cells comprising contacting the cells with
 promethazine to inhibit the proliferation of liver cancer and/or lung cancer   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the liver cancer cells comprise HUH-7 and the lung cancer cells comprise NCI-H2141. 
     
     
         3 . A method for treating liver or lung cancer by inhibiting the proliferation of liver cells and/or lung cancer cells in a patient comprising administering to the patient promethazine to treat and inhibit the proliferation of liver cancer cells and/or lung cancer cells thereby treating liver and/or lung cancer. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the liver cancer cells are of the phenotype of HUH-7 and the lung cancer cells are of the phenotype of NCI-H2141. 
     
     
         5 . A composition comprising promethazine as a medication for treatment of liver cancer and/or lung cancer. 
     
     
         6 . The composition of  claim 5  wherein the liver cancer cells are of the phenotype of HUH-7 and the lung cancer cells are of the phenotype of NCI-H2141. 
     
     
         7 . A product or composition with promethazine as an active ingredient; the product has functions 1) and/or 2) as described below:
 1) Treatment of liver cancer and/or lung cancer; or   2) Inhibition of the proliferation of liver cancer and/or lung cancer cells.   
     
     
         8 . The product or composition of  claim 7 , wherein the liver cancer cells are of the phenotype of HUH-7 and the lung cancer cells are of the phenotype of NCI-H2141. 
     
     
         9 . A kit comprising the product or composition of  claim 7 .
