Abstract

Method and device for outputting one or more signals associated with a monitored analyte level of an individual, the one or more signals including a substantially real time monitored analyte level and a rate of change information associated with the monitored analyte level, outputting a carbohydrate intake event indication, determining one or more data associated with one or more therapy information related to the monitored analyte level and the meal event indication, and outputting the determined one or more data over the outputted one or more signals associated with the monitored analyte level and the carbohydrate intake event indication are provided.

1 . A management device comprising:
 an analyte sensor configured for insertion into a body fluid of a user, the analyte sensor configured to monitor an analyte level;   a display device; and   a processor operatively coupled to the analyte sensor and the display device, the processor configured to:
 determine an initial insulin dose; 
 determine a rate of change of the analyte level; and 
 based on the determined rate of change, propose an adjusted insulin dose that is increased or decreased relative to the initial insulin dose. 
   
     
     
         2 . The management device of  claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to display on the display device the rate of change of the analyte level. 
     
     
         3 . The management device of  claim 1 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is increased by a percentage of the initial insulin dose if the rate of change of the analyte level is rising. 
     
     
         4 . The management device of  claim 1 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is increased by 10% to 20% of the initial insulin dose if the rate of change of the analyte level is rising. 
     
     
         5 . The management device of  claim 1 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is decreased by a percentage of the initial insulin dose if the rate of change of the analyte level is falling. 
     
     
         6 . The management device of  claim 1 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is decreased by 10% to 20% of the initial insulin dose if the rate of change of the analyte level is falling. 
     
     
         7 . The measurement device of  claim 1 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is based on threshold values associated with the rate of change of the analyte level. 
     
     
         8 . The measurement device of  claim 7 , wherein the threshold values are programmable. 
     
     
         9 . The measurement device of  claim 1 , wherein the increase or decrease relative to the initial insulin dose to arrive at the adjusted insulin dose is customizable. 
     
     
         10 . The measurement device of  claim 1 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is further based on insulin sensitivity. 
     
     
         11 . The measurement device of  claim 1 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is further based on a predicted future analyte level. 
     
     
         12 . The measurement device of  claim 11 , wherein the predicted future analyte level is based on a current analyte level and the rate of change of the analyte level. 
     
     
         13 . A method comprising:
 monitoring an analyte level and proposing an adjusted insulin dose using a management device comprising:
 an analyte sensor configured for insertion into a body fluid of a user, the analyte sensor configured to monitor an analyte level; 
 a display device; and 
 a processor operatively coupled to the analyte sensor and the display device, the processor configured to:
 determine an initial insulin dose; 
 determine a rate of change of the analyte level; and 
 based on the determined rate of change, propose an adjusted insulin dose that is increased or decreased relative to the initial insulin dose. 
 
   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is increased by a percentage of the initial insulin dose if the rate of change of the analyte level is rising. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is increased by 10% to 20% of the initial insulin dose if the rate of change of the analyte level is rising. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is decreased by a percentage of the initial insulin dose if the rate of change of the analyte level is falling. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is decreased by 10% to 20% of the initial insulin dose if the rate of change of the analyte level is falling. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the adjusted insulin dose is based on threshold values associated with the rate of change of the analyte level.
