Different overlays in an interactive television system for different television channels
Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for customizing the display of interactive television overlays. A condition related to the display of an overlay on top of video for a television channel may be defined for each of a plurality of television channels. A default set of information types for an interactive television overlay (e.g., a FLIP overlay, a BROWSE overlay, etc.) may be defined for the plurality of television channels. When the overlay is displayed on top of video for a given television channel of the plurality of television channels, the overlay may include information of the default set of information types. One or more television channels of the plurality of television channels may be identified as channels for which the default set of information types does not apply (e.g., channels for which the overlay is not displayed or for which a custom set of information types is defined).
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 172 . (canceled)
173 . A system comprising:
a memory configured to store content; output circuitry configured to transmit, to be displayed, a video from a content source; control circuitry configured to:
receive a request to display information related to the video;
determine whether display of overlays has been disabled for the display of the video from the content source;
in response to determining that display of overlays has been disabled for the display of the video from the content source, generate, for display, a screen comprising the information related to the video, wherein the screen excludes the display of the video.
174 . The system of claim 173 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
in response to determining that display of overlays has not been disabled for the display of the video from the content source, generate, for display, an overlay with the information related to the video that partially obstructs the display of the video from the content source.
175 . The system of claim 173 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
further in response to determining that display of overlays has been disabled for the display of the video, cause an audio volume level for the video to be decreased during display of the screen.
176 . The system of claim 173 , wherein the request for information related to the video is received through input from a user device.
177 . The system of claim 173 , wherein the screen comprising the information related to the video is generated for display on a same device as the display of the video.
178 . The system of claim 173 , wherein the information is one or more of sporting event scores, stock quotes, news, program information, or interactive content.
179 . A system comprising:
input circuitry configured to receive a request to display a video from a video source; and control circuitry configured to:
receive, by user equipment, the video to be displayed from the video source;
wherein the user input circuitry is further configured to:
receive a request to display information related to the video; and
wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
determine whether display of overlays has been disabled for the display of the video from the content source;
in response to determining that display of overlays has been disabled for the display of the video from the content source, generate, for display, a screen comprising the information related to the video, wherein the screen excludes the display of the video.
180 . The system of claim 179 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
in response to determining that display of overlays has not been disabled for the display of the video from the content source, generate, for display, an overlay with the information related to the video that partially obstructs the display of the video from the content source.
181 . The system of claim 180 , further comprising output circuitry configured to:
if the display of overlays has not been disabled for the display of the video from the content source, cause display of the video overlay with the video.
182 . The system of claim 179 , further comprising output circuitry configured to:
if the display of overlays has been disabled for the display of the video from the content source, cause an audio volume level for the video to be decreased during display of the screen.
183 . The system of claim 179 , wherein the request for information related to the video is received through input from a user device.
184 . The system of claim 179 , further comprising output circuitry configured to:
cause display of the video from the video source; in response to the request to display information related to the video, cause display of the screen comprising the information related to the video to replace display of the video from the video source.
185 . The system of claim 179 , wherein the information is one or more of sporting event scores, stock quotes, news, program information, or interactive content.
186 . A method comprising:
transmitting, to be displayed, a video from a content source; receiving a request to display information related to the video; and in response to determining that display of overlays has been disabled for the display of the video from the content source, generating, for display, a screen comprising the information related to the video, wherein the screen excludes the display of the video.
187 . The method of claim 186 , further comprising:
transmitting, to be displayed, a second video from a second content source; receiving a second request to display information related to the second video; in response to determining that display of overlays has not been disabled for the display of the second video from the second content source, generating, for display, an overlay with the information related to the second video that partially obstructs the display of the second video from the second content source.
188 . The method of claim 186 , further comprising, causing an audio volume level for the video to be decreased during display of the screen.
189 . The method of claim 186 , wherein the request for information related to the video is received through input from a user device.
190 . The method of claim 186 , wherein the screen comprising the information related to the video is generated for display on a same device as the display of the video.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
