Abstract
A media guidance application the media guidance application may determine end dates for user profile modifications based on real-life events. For example, as opposed to modifying a user profile for a predetermined about of time, the media guidance application may dynamically determine when to remove a user profile modification (or modify a user profile back to a previous state) based on subsequent user actions.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 50 . (canceled)
51 . A method for modifying content recommendations for a user profile based on an event, the method comprising:
retrieving social media data associated with a user profile and an event; parsing the social media data to identify a keyword corresponding to the event; identifying, in one or more databases, a recommendation modification corresponding to the keyword and a time period corresponding to the recommendation modification; applying the recommendation modification to the user profile for the time period; transmitting for display, during the time period, a content recommendation based on the user profile with the recommendation modification applied; and after the time period ends:
removing the recommendation modification from the user profile; and
transmitting for display a content recommendation based on the user profile without the recommendation modification applied.
52 . The method of claim 51 , wherein the recommendation modification comprises a profile modification for the user profile.
53 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the profile modification comprises a genre preference modification.
54 . The method of claim 51 , further comprising:
determining whether the event is a reoccurring event; and in response to determining that the event is the reoccurring event, adjusting a weight for a content attribute associated with the recommendation modification based on a frequency of the reoccurring event.
55 . The method of claim 51 , further comprising:
receiving, from a device associated with the user profile, a user request for a a content item before the time period ends; determining that the content item is inconsistent with the user profile with the recommendation modification applied; determining how much time has passed between receiving the user request and the event; and updating the user profile based on the determining how much time has passed.
56 . The method of claim 51 , wherein the applying the recommendation modification to the user profile for the time period comprises:
determining a modified criterion for a content recommendation based on the recommendation modification; determining whether the modified criterion matches a corresponding criterion from the user profile; and in response to determining that the modified criterion does not match the corresponding criterion, modifying the corresponding criterion to have a criterion value that matches the modified criterion.
57 . The method of claim 51 , wherein the parsing the social media data comprises:
comparing each word from the social media data with keywords from a database of keywords associated with events; and based on the comparing, identifying a keyword corresponding to the event.
58 . The method of claim 51 , wherein the applying the recommendation modification to the user profile comprises preventing recommendation of content that is associated with the keyword corresponding to the event.
59 . The method of claim 51 , wherein the applying the recommendation modification to the user profile comprises updating one or more weights for content attributes associated with the recommendation modification.
60 . The method of claim 51 , wherein the identifying the recommendation modification corresponding to the keyword comprises determining the recommendation modification based on a relevancy of the recommendation modification corresponding to the event.
61 . A system for modifying content recommendations for a user profile based on an event, the system comprising:
communications circuitry configured to retrieve social media data; and control circuitry configured to:
retrieve, via the communications circuitry, social media data associated with a user profile and an event;
parse the social media data to identify a keyword corresponding to the event;
identify, in one or more databases, a recommendation modification corresponding to the keyword and a time period corresponding to the recommendation modification;
apply the recommendation modification to the user profile for the time period;
transmit for display, during the time period, a content recommendation based on the user profile with recommendation modification applied; and
after the time period ends:
remove the recommendation modification from the user profile; and
transmit for display a content recommendation based on the user profile without the recommendation modification applied.
62 . The system of claim 61 , wherein the recommendation modification comprises a profile modification for the user profile.
63 . The system of claim 62 , wherein the profile modification comprises a genre preference modification.
64 . The system of claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
determine whether the event is a reoccurring event; and in response to determining that the event is the reoccurring event, adjust a weight for a content attribute associated with the recommendation modification based on a frequency of the reoccurring event.
65 . The system of claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
receive, from a device associated with the user profile, a user request for a content item before the time period ends; determine that the content item is inconsistent with the user profile with the recommendation modification applied; determine how much time has passed between receiving the user request and the event; and update the user profile based on the determining how much time has passed.
66 . The system of claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry, when applying the recommendation modification to the user profile for the time period, is configured to:
determine a modified criterion for a content recommendation based on the recommendation modification; determine whether the modified criterion matches a corresponding criterion from the user profile; and in response to determining that the modified criterion does not match the corresponding criterion, modify the corresponding criterion to have a criteria value that matches the modified criterion.
67 . The system of claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry, when parsing the social media data, is configured to:
compare each word from the social media data with keywords from a database of keywords associated with events; and based on comparing each word with the keywords, identify a keyword corresponding to the current event.
68 . The system of claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry, when applying the recommendation modification to the user profile, is configured to prevent recommendation of content that is associated with the keyword corresponding to the event.
69 . The system of claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry, when applying the recommendation modification to the user profile, is configured to update one or more weights for content attributes associated with the recommendation modification.
70 . The system of claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry, when identifying the recommendation modification corresponding to the keyword, is configured to determine the recommendation modification based on a relevancy of the recommendation modification corresponding to the event.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
