Ascaroside treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases

Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of ascr#7 for preventing or treating IL-6 and/or IL-1β-mediated diseases.

         17 . A composition comprising ascr#7 and a corticosteroid. 
     
     
         18 . The composition of  claim 17 , wherein the corticosteroid is selected from aldosterone, betamethasone, budesonide, corticosterone, cortisol, cortisone, dexamethasone, fluticasone, hydrocortisone, methylprednisolone, prednisolone, and prednisone. 
     
     
         19 . The composition of  claim 17 , wherein ascr#7 and a corticosteroid are administered in the same formulation. 
     
     
         20 . The composition of  claim 17 , further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. 
     
     
         21 . The composition of  claim 17 , wherein the composition has synergistic effects of ascr#7 and a corticosteroid. 
     
     
         22 . The composition of  claim 17 , wherein ascr#7 is in a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or prodrug form. 
     
     
         23 . The composition of  claim 17 , wherein the composition can be used for preventing or treating an IL-6- and/or IL-1β-mediated disease in a subject. 
     
     
         24 . The composition of  claim 23 , wherein the IL-6- and/or IL-1β-mediated disease is an autoimmune disease or an inflammatory disease. 
     
     
         25 . The composition of  claim 23 , wherein the subject has an elevated level of IL-6 and/or IL-1β. 
     
     
         26 . The composition of  claim 23 , wherein the level of IL-6 and/or IL-1β in an affected tissue of the subject exceeds 200% of a normal level in the affected tissue.
