Implantable medical device with reduced migration capabilities
Abstract
Medical devices and methods for making and using a medical device are disclosed. An example medical device may include an implantable medical device. The implantable medical device may include a stent having a covered portion and an uncovered portion. The covered portion may be releasably attached to the uncovered portion. A cover member may be disposed along the covered portion. The uncovered portion may include a release tab that is designed to release the uncovered portion from the covered portion. A removal member may be coupled to the covered portion for aiding in the removal of the covered portion from an implantation site.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An implantable medical device, comprising:
a stent having a covered portion extending to a first end of the stent, and an uncovered portion extending from the covered portion to a second end of the stent; wherein the uncovered portion of the stent is formed from a single wire crocheted to define a plurality of interconnected loops for allowing tissue ingrowth therein; wherein the covered portion of the stent comprises a tubular member extending from the first end of the stent to the uncovered portion; a cover member disposed along the covered portion to prevent tissue ingrowth therein; and a release tab located at a terminal end of the single wire of the uncovered portion at the second end of the stent, wherein the single wire forming the uncovered portion is configured to be unraveled via proximally pulling the release tab.
2 . The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the tubular member is a braided tubular member formed of a plurality of braided wires.
3 . The implantable medical device of claim 2 , wherein the single wire extends through loops of the braided tubular member.
4 . The implantable medical device of claim 2 , wherein some of the plurality of interconnected loops of the single wire extend through openings in the braided tubular member.
5 . The implantable medical device of claim 1 , further comprising a removal member coupled to the covered portion for aiding in removal of the covered portion from a body lumen.
6 . The implantable medical device of claim 5 , wherein the removal member includes a suture disposed about the covered portion of the stent.
7 . The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the single wire comprises a biodegradable material.
8 . The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the covered portion, the uncovered portion, or both have a flared end region.
9 . The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the single wire defines a series of projections configured to resist migration of the stent in a body lumen.
10 . The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the uncovered portion of the stent is formed from only a single wire.
11 . The implantable medical device of claim 1 , wherein the covered portion is releasably attached to the uncovered portion.
12 . An implantable stent, comprising:
a first stent portion formed from a plurality of wires defining a single braided tubular member, the first stent portion defining a first end of the implantable stent; a second stent portion connected to the first stent portion, the second stent portion formed from only a single wire crocheted to define a plurality of interconnected loops, the second stent portion defining a second end of the implantable stent; a cover member disposed over the first stent portion configured to prevent tissue ingrowth therein; and a release tab located at a terminal end of the single wire of the second stent portion at the second end of the implantable stent, wherein the single wire is configured to be unraveled via proximally pulling the release tab.
13 . The implantable stent of claim 12 , wherein the single wire extends through loops of the braided tubular member to connect the first and second stent portions.
14 . The implantable stent of claim 12 , wherein the single wire comprises a biodegradable material.
15 . The implantable stent of claim 14 , wherein the first stent portion is adhesively bonded to the second stent portion.
16 . The implantable stent of claim 12 , further comprising a removal member coupled to the first stent portion for aiding in removal of the first stent portion from a body lumen.
17 . The implantable stent of claim 16 , wherein the removal member includes a suture disposed about the first stent portion.
18 . The implantable stent of claim 12 , wherein the first and second stent portions are releasably connected.
19 . The implantable stent of claim 12 , wherein at least one of the first and second stent ends include a flared portion.
20 . An implantable stent, comprising:
a covered portion extending to a first end of the implantable stent, the covered portion formed from a plurality of braided wires braided into a single braided tubular member, and a cover member disposed along the braided tubular member to prevent tissue ingrowth therein; an uncovered portion extending from the covered portion to a second end of the implantable stent, the uncovered portion formed from only a single wire defining a plurality of interconnected loops configured for allowing tissue ingrowth therein; a release tab located at a terminal end of the single wire of the uncovered portion at the second end of the implantable stent, wherein the single wire forming the uncovered portion is configured to be unraveled via proximally pulling the release tab; and a suture disposed around the covered portion adjacent the uncovered portion.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
