Abstract

Content intended for delivery to one or more consuming users may be recorded by a content distribution system. The recording or archival of the content may allow users to retrieve the content at a later time without providing specific instructions to record the content. Storage of the content may include retrieving programming information describing the content and storing the information in association with the content. In one or more arrangements, descriptive data for content may be generated based on user feedback. Additionally or alternatively, content storage may include fragmentation of the content into a number of segments or segments of a specified size. Content may further be paused and resumed between multiple devices, taking into account the capabilities and compatibilities of the devices and a network through which the content is to be delivered.

1 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by a computing device and from a first user device, a first request for a content item;   beginning to send, to the first user device, a first version of the content item;   receiving, from the first user device, an indication to stop the sending of the first version of the content item;   receiving, from a second user device, a second request to resume delivery of the content item;   determining, based on capabilities of the second user device, a second version of the content item; and   sending, to the second user device, the second version of the content item.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving, from the first user device, a user description corresponding to a content segment of the content item; and   storing, by the computing device and at a storage device that is located remotely from the first user device, the user description in association with the content segment of the content item.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving, from the second user device, a user description corresponding to a content segment of the content item; and   based on receiving, from one of a plurality of other user devices, a request for the content item that corresponds to keywords associated with the user description, causing output of the content segment of the content item.   
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the determining comprises determining a format of the content item corresponding to the first version of the content item, wherein the determined format is compatible with the capabilities of the second user device. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, based on the second request, device information of the second user device, wherein the device information comprises at least one of a device type, a device address, a device name, or a device serial number.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining a type of network through which the content item is to be sent to the second user device; and   determining a transmission protocol in accordance with the determined type of network, wherein the determining the second version of the content item is further based on the transmission protocol.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the capabilities of the second user device comprise at least one of:
 a screen size, a screen resolution, an audio playback capability, a device storage capacity, a processor speed, a random-access memory capacity, a video codec compatibility, or an audio codec compatibility.   
     
     
         8 . An apparatus comprising:
 one or more processors; and   memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to:
 receive, and from a first user device, a first request for a content item; 
 begin to send, to the first user device, a first version of the content item; 
 receive, from the first user device, an indication to stop the sending of the first version of the content item; 
 receive, from a second user device, a second request to resume delivery of the content item; 
 determine, based on capabilities of the second user device, a second version of the content item; and 
 send, to the second user device, the second version of the content item. 
   
     
     
         9 . The apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
 receive, from the first user device, a user description corresponding to a content segment of the content item; and   store, at a storage device that is located remotely from the first user device, the user description in association with the content segment of the content item.   
     
     
         10 . The apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
 receive, from the second user device, a user description corresponding to a content segment of the content item; and   based on receiving, from one of a plurality of other user devices, a request for the content item that corresponds to keywords associated with the user description, cause output of the content segment of the content item.   
     
     
         11 . The apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
 determine the second version of the content item by determining a format of the content item corresponding to the first version of the content item, wherein the determined format is compatible with the capabilities of the second user device.   
     
     
         12 . The apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
 determine, based on the second request, device information of the second user device, wherein the device information comprises at least one of a device type, a device address, a device name, or a device serial number.   
     
     
         13 . The apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
 determine a type of network through which the content item is to be sent to the second user device;   determine a transmission protocol in accordance with the determined type of network; and   determine the second version of the content item further based on the transmission protocol.   
     
     
         14 . The apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein the capabilities of the second user device comprise at least one of:
 a screen size, a screen resolution, an audio playback capability, a device storage capacity, a processor speed, a random-access memory capacity, a video codec compatibility, or an audio codec compatibility.   
     
     
         15 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed, cause:
 receiving, from a first user device, a first request for a content item;   beginning to send, to the first user device, a first version of the content item;   receiving, from the first user device, an indication to stop the sending of the first version of the content item;   receiving, from a second user device, a second request to resume delivery of the content item;   determining, based on capabilities of the second user device, a second version of the content item; and   sending, to the second user device, the second version of the content item.   
     
     
         16 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of  claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:
 receiving, from the first user device, a user description corresponding to a content segment of the content item; and   storing, at a storage device that is located remotely from the first user device, the user description in association with the content segment of the content item.   
     
     
         17 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of  claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:
 receiving, from the second user device, a user description corresponding to a content segment of the content item; and   based on receiving, from one of a plurality of other user devices, a request for the content item that corresponds to keywords associated with the user description, causing output of the content segment of the content item.   
     
     
         18 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of  claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:
 the determining by causing determining a format of the content item corresponding to the first version of the content item, wherein the determined format is compatible with the capabilities of the second user device.   
     
     
         19 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of  claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:
 determining, based on the second request, device information of the second user device, wherein the device information comprises at least one of a device type, a device address, a device name, or a device serial number.   
     
     
         20 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of  claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:
 determining a type of network through which the content item is to be sent to the second user device; and   determining a transmission protocol in accordance with the determined type of network, wherein the determining the second version of the content item is further based on the transmission protocol.   
     
     
         21 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of  claim 15 , wherein the capabilities of the second user device comprise at least one of:
 a screen size, a screen resolution, an audio playback capability, a device storage capacity, a processor speed, a random-access memory capacity, a video codec compatibility, or an audio codec compatibility.
