Abstract

Methods and apparatus for providing data processing and control for use in a medical communication system are provided.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . An analyte monitoring device, comprising:
an analyte sensor, wherein at least a portion of the analyte sensor is configured to be transcutaneously positioned in contact with a bodily fluid of a user and detect analyte levels in the bodily fluid of the user; one or more processors in communication with the analyte sensor; and a memory storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to: store values indicative of the detected analyte levels over a time period; retrieve the one or more stored values associated with the detected analyte level, including at least a current value and one or more prior values corresponding to measurements taken by the analyte sensor over a predetermined period of time; determine a plurality of filtered values based on the retrieved one or more stored values; obtain a weight associated with each of the plurality of filtered values; determine a variation in a rate of change associated with the retrieved one or more stored values; and determine the detected analyte levels using a weighted average of the plurality of filtered values, wherein the weight is applied to the plurality of filtered values in the weighted average based on the determined variation of the rate of change.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions cause the one or more processors to compare the rate of change and the variation of the rate of change.

3 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the determination of the plurality of filtered values based on the retrieved one or more stored values comprises applying a first filter at a first data rate and a second filter at a second data rate.

4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein the instructions cause the one or more processors to assign a greater weight to one or more of the plurality of filtered values filtered using the first filter at the first data rate when the rate of change is greater than the variation of the rate of change.

5 . The device of claim 3 , wherein the instructions cause the one or more processors to assign a greater weight to one or more of the plurality of filtered values filtered using the second filter at the second data rate when the rate of change is lower than the variation of the rate of change.

6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the analyte sensor comprises a plurality of electrodes including a working electrode.

7 . The device of claim 1 , further comprises a transmitter and a display, wherein the transmitter is configured to send the detected analyte levels to the display.

8 . The device of claim 1 , further comprises a receiver that includes a graphical user interface (GUI) configured to display information related to the analyte levels.

9 . The device of claim 1 , is further configured to communicate data obtained from the analyte sensor to a remote device via a predetermined communication protocol.

10 . The device of claim 9 , wherein the predetermined communication protocol includes a Bluetooth communication protocol or an RF communication protocol.

11 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions cause the one or more processors to detect an alarm condition and provide a notification to the user associated with the alarm condition based on the determined detected analyte levels.

12 . An analyte monitoring method, comprising:
storing values indicative of analyte levels in a bodily fluid of a user over a time period, wherein the analyte levels are detected by an analyte sensor, wherein at least a portion of the analyte sensor is configured to be transcutaneously positioned in contact with the bodily fluid of the user; retrieving the one or more stored values associated with the detected analyte level, including at least a current value and one or more prior values corresponding to measurements taken by the analyte sensor over a predetermined period of time; determining a plurality of filtered values based on the retrieved one or more stored values; obtaining a weight associated with each of the plurality of filtered values; determining a variation in a rate of change associated with the retrieved one or more stored values; and determining the detected analyte levels using a weighted average of the plurality of filtered values, wherein the weight is applied to the plurality of filtered values in the weighted average based on the determined variation of the rate of change.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising comparing the rate of change and the variation of the rate of change.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein determining the plurality of filtered values based on the retrieved one or more stored values comprises applying a first filter at a first data rate and a second filter at a second data rate.

15 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising assigning a greater weight to one or more of the plurality of filtered values filtered using the first filter at the first data rate when the rate of change is greater than the variation of the rate of change.

16 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising assigning a greater weight to one or more of the plurality of filtered values filtered using the second filter at the second data rate when the rate of change is lower than the variation of the rate of change.

17 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising sending the detected analyte levels to a display via a transmitter.

18 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising displaying information related to the analyte levels on a receiver that includes a graphical user interface (GUI).

19 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising communicating data obtained from the analyte sensor to a remote device via a predetermined communication protocol.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the predetermined communication protocol includes a Bluetooth communication protocol or an RF communication protocol.

21 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising detecting an alarm condition and providing a notification to the user associated with the alarm condition based on the determined detected analyte levels.
