Interactive Gaming In Licensed Locations
Abstract
A location-based interactive electronic gaming includes determining a location of the player terminal. The method also includes first processing data representative of a request to enter an interactive electronic gaming session hosted by a host computer. The method further includes second processing data representative of the location of the player terminal, and determining, based on the second processing, if the player terminal is in a location permitted for play of an electronic game in the interactive electronic gaming session. For determining that the location of the player terminal is in the permitted location, the method includes causing the interactive electronic gaming session for the electronic game to be initiated on the player terminal. For determining that the location of the player terminal is not in the permitted location for play of the electronic game, the method includes causing the player terminal to be excluded from the interactive electronic gaming session.

23 . A system comprising:
a gaming platform for storage on a first memory storage device of a host computer to host an interactive electronic gaming session for an electronic game using the host computer; a gaming application for storage a second memory storage device of a player terminal to facilitate play of the electronic game in the interactive electronic gaming session using the player terminal communicably coupled to the gaming platform via a network; wherein at least one of: the first, and the second, memory storage devices include program instructions stored thereon which, when executed by at least one of: a first processor of the host computer, and a second processor the player terminal, direct the system to perform the following processes:
(a) determine a location of the player terminal using a means for determining the location of the player terminal;
(b) process data representative of a request to enter the interactive electronic gaming session communicated from the player terminal to the host computer using respective communication interfaces of the host computer and the player terminal;
(c) process data representative of the location of the player terminal to determine whether or not the player terminal is in a location permitted for play of the electronic game in the interactive electronic gaming session; and
(d) for the location of the player terminal being determined to be in the permitted location, process a signal to cause the interactive electronic gaming session for the electronic game to be initiated on the player terminal; or
(d′) for the location of the player terminal being determined to be in a non-permitted location for play of the electronic game, cause the player terminal to be excluded from the interactive electronic gaming session.
24 . The system of claim 23 , wherein both of: the first, and the second, memory storage devices include the program instructions stored thereon.
25 . The system of claim 23 , wherein process (b) is performed by the first processor, and wherein when executed by at least one of: the first, and the second, processor, the program instructions further direct the system to cause the data representative of the request to be communicated from the player terminal to the host computer using the respective communications interfaces.
26 . The system of claim 23 , wherein process (c) is performed by the first processor, wherein process (a) is performed by the second processor, and wherein when executed by the second processor, the program instructions further direct the system to cause the data representative of the location of the player terminal to be communicated from the player terminal to the host computer.
27 . The system of claim 26 , wherein the means for determining the location of the player terminal includes a global positioning system receiver.
28 . The system of claim 23 , wherein processes (d) and (d′) are performed by the first processor.
29 . The system of claim 23 , wherein processes (d) and (d′) are performed by the second processor.
30 . The system of claim 23 , wherein for the location of the player terminal being determined to be in the permitted location, the program instructions further direct the system to process signals to cause graphics related to the electronic game to be depicted on an electronic display device.
31 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the electronic game is an electronic game involving gambling or wagering, and wherein when executed by at least one of: the first, and the second, processor to process the data representative of the location of the player terminal, the program instructions further direct the system to determine that the player terminal is in a location permitted for gambling or wagering.
32 . The system of claim 31 , wherein when executed by at least one of: the first, and the second, processor, the program instructions further direct the system to process data representative of a bet or wager communicated from the player terminal to the host computer.
33 . A computer implemented method comprising the following steps performed by at least one of: a first processor of a host computer, and a second processor of a player terminal:
(a) determining a location of the player terminal using a means for determining the location of the player terminal; (b) first processing data representative of a request to enter an interactive electronic gaming session hosted by the host computer, wherein the data representative of the request is communicated from the player terminal to the host computer using respective communication interfaces of the host computer and the player terminal; (c) second processing data representative of the location of the player terminal; (d) determining, based on the second processing, if the player terminal is in a location permitted for play of an electronic game in the interactive electronic gaming session; and (e) for determining that the location of the player terminal is in the permitted location, causing the interactive electronic gaming session for the electronic game to be initiated on the player terminal; or (e′) for determining that the location of the player terminal is not in the permitted location for play of the electronic game, causing the player terminal to be excluded from the interactive electronic gaming session.
34 . The method of claim 33 , wherein step (b) is performed by the first processor, the method further comprising causing the data representative of the request to be communicated from the player terminal to the host computer using the respective communications interfaces.
35 . The method of claim 33 , wherein steps (c) and (d) are performed by the first processor, and wherein step (a) is performed by the second processor, the method further comprising causing the data representative of the location of the player terminal to be communicated from the player terminal to the host computer.
36 . The method of claim 33 , wherein step (a) comprises determining the location of the player terminal using a global positioning system.
37 . The method of claim 33 , wherein steps (e) and (e′) are performed by the first processor.
38 . The method of claim 33 , wherein steps (e) and (e′) are performed by the second processor.
39 . The method of claim 33 , wherein for determining that the location of the player terminal is in the permitted location, the method further comprises processing signals to cause graphics related to the electronic game to be depicted on an electronic display device.
40 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the electronic game is an electronic game involving gambling or wagering, and wherein step (d) comprises determining if the player terminal is in a location permitted for gambling or wagering.
41 . The method of claim 31 further comprising processing data representative of a bet or wager communicated from the player terminal to the host computer.
42 . One or more non-transitory computer readable media having program instructions stored thereon which, when executed by at least one of: a first processor of a host computer, and a second processor of a player terminal, of a system, direct the system to:
(a) determine a location of the player terminal using a means for determining the location of the player terminal; (b) first process data representative of a request to enter an interactive electronic gaming session hosted by the host computer, wherein the data representative of the request is communicated from the player terminal to the host computer using respective communication interfaces of the host computer and the player terminal; (c) second process data representative of the location of the player terminal; (d) determine, according to the second processed data, if the player terminal is in a location permitted for play of an electronic game in the interactive electronic gaming session; and (e) cause the interactive electronic gaming session for the electronic game to be initiated on the player terminal when the location of the player terminal is determined to be in the permitted location; or (e′) cause the player terminal to be excluded from the interactive electronic gaming session when the location of the player terminal is determined to be in a non-permitted location for play of the electronic device.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
