Abstract
Immunogenic composition are provided comprising PnCo and/or GlpO polypeptides identified as being preferentially expressed during the virulent phase of an infection related to streptococcal bacteria. The compositions can be used for eliciting immune response against streptococcal infections, such as against infections caused by S. pneumoniae.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A composition comprising an immunologically effective amount of an isolated PncO polypeptide having a sequence of SEQ ID NO:1, or having at least 90% homology to SEQ ID NO:1, in a pharmaceutical carrier.
2 . The composition of claim 1 , where the only immunological component is PncO.
3 . The composition of claim 1 , further comprising isolated GlpO having a sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, or having at least 90% homology to SEQ ID NO:2.
4 . The composition of claim 1 , further comprising an adjuvant.
5 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the polypeptide is incorporated in a delivery vehicle.
6 . The composition of claim 5 , wherein the delivery vehicle is a nanovesicle, nanoparticle, microvesicle, or hybrid delivery vehicle.
7 . A nanovesicle having incorporated therein a PncO polypeptide having a sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 or having at least 90% homology to SEQ ID NO:1, and/or a GlpO polypeptide having a sequence of SEQ ID NO:2 or having at least 90% homology to SEQ ID NO:2.
8 . The nanovesicles of claim 7 , wherein the nanovesicle comprises porphyrin phospholipid conjugates having cobalt chelated thereto.
9 . A method of eliciting an immune response in an individual against streptococcal infection comprising administering to the individual an effective amount of a composition of claim 1 .
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the elicited immune response is protective against an infection caused by S. pneumoniae.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the infection caused by S. pneumoniae is pneumonia.
12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the polypeptide in the composition is incorporated into a nanovesicle, wherein the nanovesicle comprises porphyrin phospholipid conjugates having cobalt chelated thereto.
13 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the polypeptide in the composition is incorporated into a hybrid biological delivery vehicle.
14 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the composition comprises an adjuvant.
15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the nanovesicle has an adjuvant incorporated therein.
