Abstract

The present invention provides a high voltage battery cell, and specifically a high voltage battery cell including a jelly roll in which three different types of jelly roll units are stacked freely and connected in series. According to embodiments of the present invention, there is provided a high voltage battery cell which is capable of implementing various cell structures while having a high voltage, and is relatively resistant to an external impact than other typical secondary cells.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A battery cell, comprising:
a jelly roll formed by stacking a plurality of jelly roll units each of which comprises a cathode, a cathode tab protruding from the cathode, an anode, and an anode tab protruding from the anode, wherein the jelly roll includes a cathode tab and an anode tab drawn out to an outside of the battery cell, wherein the cathode tab and the anode tab included in different jelly units of the plurality of jelly roll units are mutually connected to each other to form the cathode tab and the anode tab of the jelly roll drawn out to the outside of the battery cell, wherein the jelly roll and the jelly roll unit each are categorized as:
 a first type in which the cathode tab and the anode tab protrude from one side;
a second type in which the cathode tab and the anode tab protrude diagonally in different directions to the one side and an opposite side, respectively; and
a third type in which the cathode tab and the anode tab protrude in directions opposite to each other to the one side and the opposite side, respectively,
wherein a type of the jelly roll is changeable according to a type of the jelly roll unit stacked therein.

2 . The battery cell according to claim 1 , wherein the cathode tab of the jelly roll and the anode tab of the jelly roll do not overlap each other in a stacking direction of the jelly roll units.

3 . The battery cell according to claim 1 , wherein the jelly roll units comprise a solid-state battery.

4 . The battery cell according to claim 1 , wherein the jelly roll has a voltage proportional to the number of the jelly roll units stacked therein.

5 . The battery cell according to claim 1 , wherein, in the first type of the jelly roll, the second type of the jelly roll unit and the third type of the jelly roll unit are combined such that the cathode tab of the jelly roll and the anode tab of the jelly roll protrude from the one side,
wherein, in the second type of the jelly roll, the first type of the jelly roll unit and the third type of the jelly roll unit are combined such that the cathode tab of the jelly roll and the anode tab of the jelly roll protrude diagonally in different directions to the one side and the opposite side, respectively, wherein, in the third type of the jelly roll, the first type of the jelly roll unit and the second type of the jelly roll unit are combined such that the cathode tab of the jelly roll and the anode tab of the jelly roll protrude in directions opposite to each other to the one side and the opposite side, respectively.

6 . The battery cell of claim 1 , wherein an outer surface of an outermost jelly roll unit of the jelly roll units stacked in the jelly roll is an anode coating surface or a non-coating surface on which an active layer is not coated.

7 . The battery cell of claim 6 , wherein an inner surface of the outermost jelly roll unit is a metal exposed surface of the cathode or the anode which is single surface-coated.

8 . The battery cell of claim 1 , wherein the first type of the jelly roll unit, the second type of the jelly roll unit and the third type of the jelly roll unit are all stacked and connected in series in the jelly roll.

9 . The battery cell of claim 1 , wherein the cathode includes a first active material layer, and the first active material layer includes a lithium transition metal oxide, a PVdF-based binder and a carbon conductive material.

10 . The battery cell of claim 1 , wherein the anode includes a second active material layer, and the second active material layer includes graphite, a carbon-based active material or a silicon-based active material, and further includes a styrene butadiene rubber-based binder, a CMC binder and a carbon-based conductive material.
