System and Method for A Drill Bit
Abstract
An open drill bid and system for using is disclosed. The open drill bit has an upstream end and a downstream end. A downstream face is located on the downstream end. A single central opening located on a downstream face of a drill bit extends through to the upstream end. The drill bit has at least two blades attached to the drill bit. At least a portion of the blades are located downstream of the downstream face. The central opening allows for the drill bit to be used at lower pressures without plugging. Thus, the drill bit can be used for water well drilling which is typically at a lower pressure.

1 . An open drill bit comprising:
an upstream end and a downstream end; a downstream face located on said downstream end; a single central opening located on a downstream face of a drill bit which extends through to said upstream end; at least two blades attached to said drill bit, and wherein at least a portion of said at least two blades are located downstream of said downstream face.
2 . The drill bit of claim 1 further comprising a head portion downstream of a coupler portion.
3 . The drill bit of claim 2 wherein said central opening extends through said head portion and said coupler portion and extends to said downstream face.
4 . The drill bit of claim 1 wherein said at least two blades comprises cutters.
5 . The drill bit of claim 4 wherein said cutters comprise PDC cutters.
6 . The drill bit of claim 5 wherein said PDC cutters are welded onto said blades.
7 . The drill bit of claim 1 wherein said blades comprise a generally L-shape.
8 . The drill bit of claim 1 wherein said blades partially cross downstream in line with the central opening.
9 . A system for low pressure drilling, said system comprising:
a low pressure pump coupled to a drill bit; wherein said drill bit comprises:
an upstream end and a downstream end;
a downstream face located on said downstream end;
a single central opening located on a downstream face of a drill bit which extends through to said upstream end;
at least two blades attached to said drill bit, and wherein at least a portion of said at least two blades are located downstream of said downstream face.
10 . The system of claim 9 wherein said low pressure drilling system comprises water well drilling.
11 . The system of claim 9 wherein said low pressure pump operates at less than 400 psi.
12 . The system of claim 9 wherein said low pressure pump operates at less than 300 psi.
13 . The system of claim 9 wherein said low pressure pump drills at a pressure of less than 300 psi.
14 . The system of claim 9 further comprising a head portion downstream of a coupler portion, and wherein said central opening extends through said head portion and said coupler portion and extends to said downstream face.
15 . The system of claim 9 wherein said at least two blades comprises cutters.
16 . The system of claim 15 wherein said cutters comprise PDC cutters.
