Abstract
A method, device and machine-readable storage device for transferring data between identity modules is disclosed. Data is stored in one of a first removable storage module coupled to a donor communication device and a memory of the donor communication device, or both. A first portion of the data is provided to a server. The server provides the first portion of the data to a second removable storage module coupled to a recipient communication device responsive to a determination that a recipient communication device has a right to the data. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations comprise converting the first media content from a first format to a second format in response to detecting the recipient communication device is a different device type than the donating communication device.
3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations comprise determining that a first secure communication link is established between the intermediary device and the donating communication device and determining that a second secure communication link is established between the intermediary device and the recipient communication device.
4 . The device of claim 3 , wherein each of the first secure communication link and the second secure communication link is established utilizing a cryptographic protocol.
5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the intermediary device comprises a web server.
6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first media content comprises first music media content and the first media content type comprises a first music media content type, wherein the second media content comprises second music media content and the second media content type comprises a second music media content type.
7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first media content comprises a first movie media content and the first media content type comprises a first movie media content type, wherein the second media content comprises a second movie media content and the second media content type comprises a second movie media content type.
8 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the first media content comprises a music content and the first media content type comprises a music media content type, wherein the second media content comprises movie media content and the second media content type comprises a movie media content type.
9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise:
receiving an identity of the subscriber; and identifying the service plan associated with the service provider according to the identity of the subscriber, wherein the providing of the first media content and the second media content further comprises verifying that the subscriber has a right to store the first media content according to a subscriber account.
10 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise disabling the first identity module responsive to detecting that the intermediary device provided the first media content to the second identity module of the recipient communication device.
11 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise directing removal of the first media content from the first identity module of the donating communication device responsive to detecting that the intermediary device provided the first media content to the second identity module of the recipient communication device.
12 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the directing of the removal of the first media content from the first identity module of the donating communication device comprises directing the removal of the first media content from the first identity module of the donating communication device without disabling the first identity module and without disabling the recipient communication device.
13 . A non-transitory, machine-readable storage device comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations comprising:
receiving a request to transfer media content stored in a first identity module of a donating communication device to a second identity module of a recipient communication device, wherein the recipient communication device is associated with a subscriber having a service plan with a service provider; providing a list of the media content to both the donating communication device and the recipient communication device; receiving a user selection to transfer music media content and movie media content in the first identity module to the second identity module, wherein the list of the media content comprises the music media content and the movie media content; identifying a music media content type associated with the music media content and identifying a movie media content type associated with the movie media content; determining the recipient communication device has a right to possess the music media content based on the service plan, wherein the service plan allows the subscriber to possess media content of the music media content type; determining that the recipient communication device does not have a right to possess the movie media content based on the service plan, wherein the service plan does not allow the subscriber to possess media content that is of the movie media content type; and providing the music media content and the movie media content in the first identity module of the donating communication device to an intermediary device, wherein the intermediary device provides the music media content without providing the movie media content to the second identity module of the recipient communication device, wherein the recipient communication device has permission to store the music media content on the second identity module based on the music media content type according to the service plan and the recipient communication device does not have permission to store the movie media content on the second identity module based on the movie media content type according to the service plan.
14 . The non-transitory, machine-readable storage device of claim 13 , wherein the operations comprise converting the music media content from a first format to a second format in response to detecting the recipient communication device is a different device type than the donating communication device.
15 . The non-transitory, machine-readable storage device of claim 13 , wherein the operations comprise determining that a first secure communication link is established between the intermediary device and the donating communication device and determining that a second secure communication link is established between the intermediary device and the recipient communication device.
16 . The non-transitory, machine-readable storage device of claim 15 , wherein each of the first secure communication link and the second secure communication link is established utilizing a cryptographic protocol.
