Abstract

A system includes an optical element configured to separate light into a first light beam and a second light beam, a first optical module configured to capture a first image having a first field of view from the first light beam, a second optical module configured to capture a second image having a second field of view different from the first field of view from the second light beam, and one or more processors configured to generate a scaled image by scaling one of the first image or the second image, and generate a combined image by fusing the scaled image and an unscaled one of the first image or the second image.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A system comprising:
 an optical element configured to separate light into a first light beam and a second light beam;   a first optical module configured to capture a first image from the first light beam, the first image having a first field of view;   a second optical module configured to capture a second image from the second light beam, the second image having a second field of view different from the first field of view; and   one or more processors configured to:
 generate a scaled image by scaling one of the first image or the second image; and 
 generate a combined image by fusing the scaled image and an unscaled one of the first image or the second image. 
   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are configured to generate the combined image further by scaling the fused image to obtain a desired field of view. 
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein a desired field of view of the combined image is greater than the first field of view and the second field of view, and the combined image comprises fused parts. 
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein a desired field of view of the combined image is between the first field of view and the second field of view, and the combined image comprises an inner field of view including fused parts and an outer field of view including one of the scaled image or the unscaled one of the first image or the second image, whichever has a wider field of view. 
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to receive a desired focal length. 
     
     
         6 . The system of  claim 5 , wherein the combined image has a desired field of view corresponding to the desire focal length. 
     
     
         7 . The system of  claim 5 , wherein the first optical module has a first focal length and the second optical module has a second focal length.

         11 . A method of capturing images comprising:
 separating, with aid of an optical element, light into a first light beam and a second light beam;   capturing, with aid of a first optical module, a first image from the first light beam, the first image having a first field of view;   capturing, with aid of a second optical module, a second image from the second light beam, the second image having a second field of view different from the first field of view;   generating a scaled image by scaling one of the first image or the second image; and   generating a combined image by fusing the scaled image and an unscaled one of the first image or the second image.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein generating the combined image further includes scaling the fused image to obtain a desired field of view. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 11 , further comprising:
 receiving a desired focal length.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the combined image has a desired field of view corresponding to the desire focal length. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the first optical module has a first focal length and the second optical module has a second focal length.

 a first sensor; and 
 a first lens module configured to focus the first light beam onto the first sensor to capture the first image, and 
   wherein the second optical module comprises:
 a second sensor; and 
 a second lens module configured to focus the second light beam onto the second sensor to capture the second image.
