Claims

Abstract

The disclosure provides a method for communicating a meeting point to a provider traveling along a route to meet a user at a destination. Near the destination specified for the route, the user may specify a meeting point, a point at which the user will be waiting for the provider. The meeting point may be different or the same as the destination. The meeting point is then communicated to the provider to help the provider find the user, upon approach to the destination.

What is claims is: 
     
         1 . A method comprising:
 transmitting, to a provider client device, a first route for a provider to travel to a destination;   transmitting, to a user client device, a second route for a user to travel to the destination;   monitoring traversal of the provider client device along the first route and traversal of the user client device along the second route;   selecting an image capture point;   retrieving a view of an environment that was previously captured by an imaging device at the image capture point;   transmitting the view of the environment to the user client device;   receiving a modified view of the environment from the user client device, the modified view of the environment including a marker representing a meeting point for the user;   transmitting the modified view of the environment to the provider client device; and   instructing the provider client device to display the modified view of the environment to the provider when the provider client device is within a threshold distance from the image capture point.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the meeting point is a location where the provider can expect to find the user. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising: prior to transmitting the view of the environment to the user client device, determining the user client device is within a second threshold distance of the destination or the image capture point. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the image capture point is selected based on the image capture point being within a second threshold distance from the destination. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the image capture point is selected based on the image capture point being along the first route. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the image capture point is selected based on the image capture point being selected by the user on the user client device. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the image capture point is selected based on the image capture point being within a second threshold distance from the user client device. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising: receiving a communication from the user client device indicating that the user wants to designate a meeting point. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein a location of the marker in the view is designated by the user on the user client device. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 selecting a second image capture point different than the image capture point;   selecting a second view of the environment that was previously captured at the second image capture point;   transmitting the second view of the environment to the user client device;   receiving a modified second view of the environment from the user client device, the modified view of the environment including a second marker representing the meeting point for the user; and   transmitting the modified second view of the environment to the provider client device; and   instructing the provider client device to display the modified second view of the environment to the provider when the provider client device is within a second threshold distance from the second image capture point.   
     
     
         11 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising stored instructions that, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to perform operations comprising:
 transmitting, to a provider client device, a first route for a provider to travel to a destination;   transmitting, to a user client device, a second route for a user to travel to the destination;   monitoring traversal of the provider client device along the first route and traversal of the user client device along the second route;   selecting an image capture point;   retrieving a view of an environment that was previously captured by an imaging device at the image capture point;   transmitting the view of the environment to the user client device;   receiving a modified view of the environment from the user client device, the modified view of the environment including a marker representing a meeting point for the user;   transmitting the modified view of the environment to the provider client device; and   instructing the provider client device to display the modified view of the environment to the provider when the provider client device is within a threshold distance from the image capture point.   
     
     
         12 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 11 , wherein the meeting point is a location where the provider can expect to find the user.

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise: prior to transmitting the view of the environment to the user client device, determining the user client device is within a second threshold distance of the destination or the image capture point. 
     
     
         14 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 11 , wherein the image capture point is selected based on the image capture point being within a second threshold distance from the destination. 
     
     
         15 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 11 , wherein the image capture point is selected based on the image capture point being along the first route. 
     
     
         16 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 11 , wherein the image capture point is selected based on the image capture point being selected by the user on the user client device. 
     
     
         17 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 11 , wherein the image capture point is selected based on the image capture point being within a second threshold distance from the user client device. 
     
     
         18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise: receiving a communication from the user client device indicating that the user wants to designate a meeting point. 
     
     
         19 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 11 , wherein a location of the marker in the view is designated by the user on the user client device. 
     
     
         20 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of  claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 selecting a second image capture point different than the image capture point;   selecting a second view of the environment that was previously captured at the second image capture point;   transmitting the second view of the environment to the user client device;   receiving a modified second view of the environment from the user client device, the modified view of the environment including a second marker representing the meeting point for the user; and   transmitting the modified second view of the environment to the provider client device; and   instructing the provider client device to display the modified second view of the environment to the provider when the provider client device is within a second threshold distance from the second image capture point.
