Abstract

Usage rates for user equipment (UEs) in a peer to peer wireless network are disclosed. For instance, a network device communicates via a first wireless connection with the network device, wherein the first wireless connection employs a first frequency band, and wherein the first frequency band corresponds to a first rate model. Then, a request is received to change the first frequency band to a second frequency band. A second wireless connection is established with the network device, wherein the second wireless connection employs the second frequency band, and wherein the second frequency band corresponds to a second rate model different than the first rate model.

Claims

receiving an indication from the network equipment to establish a second network connection to the network equipment, wherein the second network connection employs the second communication protocol corresponding to a second rate model, different from the first rate model, and
in response to receiving the indication, establishing the second network connection.

2 . The user equipment of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise communicating a request to change from the first communication protocol to the second communication protocol, and wherein the indication received from the network equipment was generated based on the request.

3 . The user equipment of claim 1 , wherein the indication was generated by the network equipment based on the user equipment supporting the communicating according to the first communication protocol and the second communication protocol.

4 . The user equipment of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving, from the network equipment, notice corresponding to an availability of the second communication protocol to the user equipment.

5 . The user equipment of claim 4 , wherein the operations further comprise, based on the notice, updating a subscriber information module of the user equipment.

6 . The user equipment of claim 1 , wherein the first frequency band comprises a bandwidth that is at least 24 gigahertz.

7 . The user equipment of claim 1 , wherein the second frequency band comprises a bandwidth that is at most 6 gigahertz.

8 . The user equipment of claim 1 , wherein the second frequency band of the second communication protocol is determined according to a configuration of the user equipment.

         9 . A method, comprising,
facilitating, by a user equipment comprising a processor, establishing a first network connection to base station equipment, wherein the first network connection employs a first network protocol corresponding to a first rate for use of the first network connection, and defining communication using a first frequency band, and wherein the user equipment supports communication using the first network protocol and a second network protocol corresponding to a second rate for use of a second network connection via the second network protocol, and defining communication using a second frequency band; facilitating, by the user equipment, receiving an indication from the base station equipment to establish the second network connection to the base station equipment; and facilitating, by the user equipment, establishing the second network connection.

10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising facilitating, by the user equipment, transmitting, to the base station equipment, a request to change from the first network protocol to the second network protocol, wherein the indication received from the base station equipment was generated based on the request.

11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the indication was generated by the base station equipment based on the user equipment being determined to be able to support communication using the first network protocol and the second network protocol.

12 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising receiving, by the user equipment from the base station equipment, availability information corresponding to an availability, to the user equipment, of the second network protocol.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising, based on information in the notice, updating, by the user equipment, a subscriber information module of the user equipment.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the subscriber information module is updated to comprise a reference to the second rate.

15 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the first network protocol comprises a long term evolution radio access network protocol.

16 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the first network protocol comprises a fifth generation network radio access network protocol.

17 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the first network protocol comprises a millimeter wave network communication protocol.

18 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor of a user equipment, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
establishing a first wireless connection to network equipment, wherein the first wireless connection employs a first frequency band communication protocol, wherein the user equipment supports communication via the first frequency band communication protocol and a second frequency band communication protocol, and wherein the first frequency band communication protocol and the second frequency band communication protocol are different millimeter wave frequency band communication protocols; receiving an instruction from the network equipment to establish a second wireless connection to the network equipment, wherein the second wireless connection employs the second frequency band communication protocol; and establishing the second wireless connection.
