Abstract
Described herein is an aerosol-forming substrate comprising an aerosol-forming material provided on a carrier, wherein the aerosol-forming material comprises an amorphous solid and wherein one or more vents are provided in the aerosol-forming material to allow the passage of aerosol and/or gases through the aerosol-forming material in use.

An aerosol-forming substrate comprising an aerosol-forming material provided on a carrier, wherein the aerosol-forming material comprises an amorphous solid and wherein one or more vents are provided in the aerosol-forming material to allow the passage of aerosol and/or gases through the aerosol-forming material in use.
2 . An aerosol-forming substrate according to claim 1 , wherein the vents comprise apertures in the aerosol-forming material and/or burst points in the aerosol-forming material.
3 . An aerosol-forming substrate according to claim 1 , wherein the carrier is substantially impermeable to gas or aerosol.
4 . An aerosol generating article for use in an aerosol generating assembly, wherein the article comprises an aerosol-forming substrate according to claim 1 .
5 . An aerosol generating article according to claim 4 , further comprising a heater configured to heat but not burn the aerosol-forming substrate.
6 . An aerosol generating assembly according to claim 5 , wherein the carrier of the aerosol-forming substrate is substantially impermeable and is disposed between the aerosol-forming material and the heater.
7 . An aerosol generating assembly according to claim 5 , wherein the assembly is a heat-not-burn device.
8 . An aerosol generating assembly according to claim 5 , wherein the assembly is an electronic tobacco hybrid device.
9 . A method of making an aerosol-forming substrate according to claim 1 comprising (a) forming a slurry comprising components of the amorphous solid or precursors thereof, (b) applying the slurry to the carrier, (c) setting slurry to form a gel and (d) drying to form an amorphous solid.
10 . A method according to claim 9 , in which the vents are provided in the aerosol-forming material during step (b).
11 . A method according to claim 9 , further comprising (e) forming the vents in the amorphous solid.
12 . A method according to claim 11 , wherein the step (e) of forming vents in the amorphous solid comprises cutting the gel to provide apertures and/or burst points.
