Claims

Abstract

An implantable textile graft includes a textile tubular wall of liquid permeable textile construction of one or more yarns having opposed inner and outer surfaces. A portion of the inner surface includes a removable coating. The outer surface includes a coating of a water-insoluble, non-porous elastomeric sealant, such as a silicone-containing polymer, a polyurethane-containing polymer, and/or a polycarbonate-containing polymer, for limiting movement of fluid through the wall. The textile tubular wall is, after curing of the sealant, impermeable to water at 120 mm Hg pressure. The removable coating prevents migrating of the outer coating onto the inner surface of the textile tubular wall and the removable coating is removed prior to implantation of the graft. The portion of the inner surface of the textile tubular wall is substantially free of the water-insoluble elastomeric sealant following removal of the removable coating.

The invention claimed is: 
     
         1 . An implantable textile graft comprising:
 a textile tubular wall having a portion disposed between a first open end and an opposed second open end and having an inner surface and an opposed outer surface, the textile tubular wall comprising a textile construction of one or more yarns, the textile construction by itself being permeable to liquid;   wherein a portion of the inner surface comprises a removable coating, which comprises at least one substantially water-soluble material, disposed thereon;   wherein the outer surface further comprises a coating of a substantially water-insoluble, non-porous elastomeric sealant selected from the group consisting of a silicone-containing polymer, a polyurethane-containing polymer, a polycarbonate-containing polymer and combinations thereof, the substantially water-insoluble sealant limiting movement of fluid through the wall of the graft disposed thereon;   wherein the textile tubular wall having the coating of the substantially water-insoluble elastomeric sealant is, after curing thereof, substantially impermeable to water at 120 mm Hg pressure;   wherein the removable coating substantially prevents migrating of the outer coating onto the inner surface of the textile tubular wall and the removable coating is removed prior to implantation of the graft; and   wherein the portion of the inner surface of the textile tubular wall is substantially free of the water-insoluble elastomeric sealant following removal of the removable coating.   
     
     
         2 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , wherein the elastomeric sealant comprises a silicone-containing and/or a urethane-containing polymer. 
     
     
         3 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , wherein the water-soluble material is selected from the group consisting of polyvinylpyrrolidone, glycerol, methyl cellulose, poly(ethylene glycol), poly(ethylene glycol) hydrogel, polyethylene oxide, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         4 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , wherein the water-soluble material comprises polyvinylpyrrolidone having a molecular weight of between approximately 6,000 g/mol and approximately 15,000 g/mol. 
     
     
         5 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , wherein, the water-soluble material comprises (i) a material selected from the group consisting of glycerol, poly(ethylene glycol), or combinations thereof; and (ii) and a solvent comprising water. 
     
     
         6 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , further including a support member secured to or about the textile tubular wall. 
     
     
         7 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , wherein the tubular textile wall is crimped. 
     
     
         8 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 5 , wherein the tubular textile wall is crimped. 
     
     
         9 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , wherein one portion of the textile tubular wall has a first level of the elastomeric sealant to provide a first soft, flexible zone;
 wherein another portion of the textile tubular wall has a second level of the elastomeric sealant to provide a second zone having a stiffness greater than the first zone; and   wherein the second level of the elastomeric sealant is greater than the first level of the elastomeric sealant.   
     
     
         10 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , wherein the textile tubular wall has a plurality of portions having different levels of the elastomeric sealant to provide a plurality of portions having different levels of stiffnesses. 
     
     
         11 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , wherein the elastomeric sealant further includes one or more additional components selected from the group consisting of additional elastomeric sealant materials, solvents, a colorant, a therapeutic agent, a dye, and a fluorescent indicator. 
     
     
         12 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 10 , wherein the additional elastomeric sealant material is selected from the group consisting of silicones, polyurethanes, polycarbonates, thermoplastic elastomers, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         13 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , wherein the textile construction is selected from the group consisting of a weave of the one or more yarns, a knit of the one or more yarns, a braid of the one or more yarns, a web of the one or more yarns, a felt of the one or more yarns, and a mesh of the one or more yarns. 
     
     
         14 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 12 , wherein the one or more yarns include multifilament yarns. 
     
     
         15 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 1 , wherein after curing of the substantially water-insoluble elastomeric sealant, the textile tubular wall has a water permeability of about 0.16 ml/min/cm 2  at 120 mm Hg pressure or less than 0.16 ml/min/cm 2  at 120 mm Hg pressure. 
     
     
         16 . The graft of  claim 1 , wherein the textile tubular wall is a crimped wall having a plurality of peaks and valleys; and wherein the silicone-polyurethane elastomeric sealant is disposed at about 8 mg/cm 2  of area of the textile tubular wall or greater than 8 mg/cm 2  of area of the textile tubular wall. 
     
     
         17 . An implantable textile graft comprising:
 a textile tubular wall having a portion disposed between a first open end and an opposed second open end and having an inner surface and an opposed outer surface, the textile tubular wall comprising a textile construction of one or more yarns;   wherein the outer surface comprises a coating of an elastomeric sealant selected from the group consisting of a silicone-containing polymer, a polyurethane-containing polymer, a polycarbonate-containing polymer and combinations thereof, disposed thereon;   wherein the one or more yarns are pre-treated with a removable composition, which removable composition is substantially removed prior to implantation, such that the elastomeric sealant as applied to the outer surface is prevented from substantially penetrating to the inner surface of the textile tubular wall by the removable composition;   wherein the textile tubular wall having the coating of the silicone-polyurethane elastomeric sealant is, after curing thereof, substantially impermeable to water at 120 mm Hg pressure; and   wherein the inner surface is substantially free of the elastomeric sealant.   
     
     
         18 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 17 , wherein the water-soluble material is selected from the group consisting of polyvinylpyrrolidone, glycerol, methyl cellulose, poly(ethylene glycol) poly(ethylene glycol) hydrogel, polyethylene oxide, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         19 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 17 , wherein the water-soluble material comprises polyvinylpyrrolidone having a molecular weight of between approximately 6,000 g/mol and approximately 15,000 g/mol. 
     
     
         20 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 17 , wherein, the water-soluble material comprises polyvinylpyrrolidone and glycerol. 
     
     
         21 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 17 , further including a support member secured to or about the textile tubular wall. 
     
     
         22 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 16 , wherein the tubular textile wall is crimped. 
     
     
         23 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 17 , wherein the tubular textile wall is crimped 
     
     
         24 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 17 , wherein one portion of the textile tubular wall has a first level of the elastomeric sealant to provide a first soft, flexible zone;
 wherein another portion of the textile tubular wall has a second level of the elastomeric sealant to provide a second zone having a stiffness greater than the first zone; and   wherein the second level of the elastomeric sealant is greater than the first level of the silicone-polyurethane sealant.   
     
     
         25 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 16 , wherein the textile tubular wall has a plurality of portions having different levels of the elastomeric sealant to provide a plurality of portions having different levels of stiffnesses. 
     
     
         26 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 16 , wherein the elastomeric sealant further includes one or more additional components selected from the group consisting of additional elastomeric sealant materials, solvents, a colorant, a therapeutic agent, a dye, and a fluorescent indicator. 
     
     
         27 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 25 , wherein the additional elastomeric sealant material are selected from the group consisting of silicones, polyurethanes, polycarbonates, thermoplastic elastomers, and combinations thereof. 
     
     
         28 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 16 , wherein the textile construction is selected from the group consisting of a weave of the one or more yarns, a knit of the one or more yarns, a braid of the one or more yarns, a web of the one or more yarns, a felt of the one or more yarns, and a mesh of the one or more yarns. 
     
     
         29 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 28 , wherein the one or more yarns include multifilament yarns. 
     
     
         30 . The implantable textile graft of  claim 17 , wherein after curing of the substantially water-insoluble silicone-polyurethane elastomeric sealant, the textile tubular wall has a water permeability of about 0.16 ml/min/cm 2  at 120 mm Hg pressure or less than 0.16 ml/min/cm 2  at 120 mm Hg pressure. 
     
     
         31 . The graft of  claim 17 , wherein the textile tubular wall is a crimped wall having a plurality of peaks and valleys; and wherein the elastomeric sealant is disposed at about 8 mg/cm 2  of area of the textile tubular wall or greater than 8 mg/cm 2  of area of the textile tubular wall. 
     
     
         32 . An implantable textile graft comprising:
 a textile tubular wall having a portion disposed between a first open end and an opposed second open end and having an inner surface and an opposed outer surface, the textile tubular wall comprising a textile construction of one or more yarns;   wherein the outer surface comprises a coating of an elastomeric sealant selected from the group consisting of a silicone-containing polymer, a polyurethane-containing polymer, a polycarbonate-containing polymer and combinations thereof, disposed thereon;   wherein the textile tubular wall having the coating of the silicone-polyurethane elastomeric sealant is, after curing thereof, substantially impermeable to water at 120 mm Hg pressure; and   wherein the inner surface is substantially free of the elastomeric sealant.
