Oral care compositions and method of making same

Abstract

An oral care having a plant oil constituent together with white or a close shade of white activated charcoal constituent is disclosed herein.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An oral care composition comprising: a white activated charcoal. 
     
     
         2 . The oral care composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the white activated charcoal is coconut white activated charcoal. 
     
     
         3 . The oral care composition of  claim 1 , further comprising a plant oil selected from the group consisting of coconut oil, palm kernel oil, babassu oil and fractions thereof. 
     
     
         4 . The oral care composition according to  claim 3 , wherein the plant oil further has a ratio of hypocholesterolemic fatty acids to hypercholesterolemic fatty acids in the range of about 10-22 wt % hypocholesterolemic fatty acids to about 70-75 wt % hypercholesterolemic fatty acids. 
     
     
         5 . The oral care composition according to  claim 4 , wherein the plant oil further comprises about 11 to about 22 wt % of hypocholesterolemic fatty acid residues, about 46 to about 48 wt % of relatively moderately hypercholesterolemic fatty acids residues, and about 24 to about 27 wt % of fatty acid residues having relatively strong hypercholesterolemic effect. 
     
     
         6 . The oral care composition according to  claim 1 , further comprising a dental abrasive. 
     
     
         7 . The oral care composition according to  claim 6 , wherein the dental abrasive is hydrated silica. 
     
     
         8 . The oral care composition according to  claim 1 , further comprising a humectant. 
     
     
         9 . The oral care composition according to  claim 8 , wherein the humectant is selected from the group consisting of edible polyhydric alcohols, edible polyols and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         10 . The oral care composition according to  claim 9 , wherein the humectant is selected from the group consisting of glycerin, sorbitol, xylitol, propylene glycol, and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         11 . The toothpaste composition according to  claim 8 , wherein the humectant further comprise a mixture of sorbitol and glycerin in a 70% aqueous solution. 
     
     
         12 . The oral care composition according to  claim 1 , further comprising a sweetening agent. 
     
     
         13 . The oral care composition of  claim 12 , wherein the sweetening agent is selected from the group consisting of xylitol, sucrose, lactose, maltose, sorbitol, sodium cyclamate, perillartine, L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine methyl ester, levulose, dextrose, D-tryptophan, dihydrochalcones, acesulfame and saccharine. 
     
     
         14 . The oral care composition according to  claim 1 , further comprising a thickening agent. 
     
     
         15 . The oral care composition according to  claim 14 , wherein the thickening agent further comprises carrageenan. 
     
     
         16 . The oral care composition according to  claim 1 , further comprising a whitening agent. 
     
     
         17 . The oral care composition according to  claim 16 , wherein the whitening agent further comprises titanium dioxide. 
     
     
         18 . The oral care composition according to  claim 1 , further comprising alkaline water present at about 20 to about 40 wt % of the toothpaste composition. 
     
     
         19 . The oral care composition according to  claim 3 , wherein the plant oil is present at about 20 to about 40 wt % of the toothpaste composition. 
     
     
         20 . The oral care composition according to  claim 7 , wherein the hydrated silica is present at about 10 to about 24 wt % of the toothpaste composition. 
     
     
         21 . The oral care composition according to  claim 20 , further comprising a first silica present at about 10 to about 20 wt % of the composition and a second silica present at about 1 to about 4 wt % of the toothpaste composition. 
     
     
         22 . The oral care composition according to  claim 8 , wherein the humectant is present at about 10 to about 20 wt % of the toothpaste composition. 
     
     
         23 . The oral care composition according to  claim 1 , wherein the activated charcoal is present at about 0.05 to about 2 wt % of the toothpaste composition. 
     
     
         24 . An oral care composition, comprising: water present in an amount within the range of about 20 to 40 weight % of the composition; plant oil present in an amount within the range of about 20-40 weight % of the composition, a dental abrasive present in the range of about 1 to 20 weight % of the composition; activated white charcoal present in an amount within the range of about 0.05 to 2 weight % of the composition, and a whitening agent present in an amount within the range of about 0.05 to 2 weight %.
