Gas Piston Conversion Assembly
Abstract
A gas piston conversion assembly for converting a gas impingement system of an AR-15 rifle to a gas piston system includes an upper receiver that is installable into an AR-15 rifle. The upper receiver has a well extending rearwardly in the upper receiver. The well is aligned with a gas tube of the AR-15 rifle when the upper receiver is installed in the AR-15 rifle. A piston is insertable into the well. The piston is in fluid communication with the gas tube when the piston is inserted into the well and the upper receiver is integrated into the AR-15 rifle. The piston is urged rearwardly in the well by pressurized gasses when the AR-15 rifle is fired. Moreover, the piston strikes a bolt mechanism of the AR-15 rifle when the piston is urged rearwardly for cycling the bolt mechanism.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A gas piston conversion being configured to convert a gas impingement system of an AR-15 rifle into a gas piston system, said assembly comprising:
an AR-15 rifle having a gas tube and a bolt mechanism, the gas tube having an integrally closed forward end; a bore extending perpendicularly between the gas tube and a barrel of the AR-15 rifle, the bore being rearwardly spaced from the integrally closed front end of the gas tube: an upper receiver being installable into the AR-15 rifle, said upper receiver having a forward end, said forward end having a well extending rearwardly in said upper receiver; and a piston being insertable into said well, said piston being in fluid communication with the gas tube when said piston is inserted into said well and said upper receiver is integrated into the AR-15 rifle, the gas tube having an integrally closed forward end, said piston being urged rearwardly in said well by pressurized gasses when the AR-15 rifle is fired, said piston striking a bolt mechanism of the AR-15 rifle when said piston is urged rearwardly for cycling the bolt mechanism.
2 . The assembly according to claim 1 , Wherein said piston has a front end and a rear end, said front end having a diameter being greater than a diameter of said rear end, said front end receiving gas pressure from the gas tube when the AR-15 rifle is fired thereby urging said piston rearwardly in said well.
3 . The assembly according to claim 2 , Wherein said rear end strikes the bolt mechanism when said piston is urged rearwardly in said well for cycling the bolt mechanism, said piston being urged forwardly in said well by the bolt mechanism when the bolt mechanism cycles.
5 . The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein:
said piston has a front end and a rear end, said front end having a diameter being greater than a diameter of said rear end, said front end receiving gas pressure from the gas tube when the AR-15 rifle is fired thereby urging said piston rearwardly in said well, said rear end striking the bolt mechanism when said piston is urged rearwardly in said well for cycling the bolt mechanism, said piston being urged forwardly in said well by the bolt mechanism when the bolt mechanism cycles.
6 . A gas piston conversion comprising:
an AR-15 rifle having a gas tube and a bolt mechanism, the gas tube having an integrally closed forward end; a bore extending perpendicularly between the gas tube and a barrel of the AR-15 rifle, the bore being rearwardly spaced from the integrally closed front end of the gas tube; an upper receiver being installable into said AR-15 rifle, said upper receiver having a forward end, said forward end having a well extending rearwardly in said upper receiver; and a piston being insertable into said well, said piston being in fluid communication with said gas tube when said piston is inserted into said well and said upper receiver is integrated into said AR-15 rifle, said piston being urged rearwardly in said well by pressurized gasses when said AR-15 rifle is fired, said piston striking said bolt mechanism of said AR-15 rifle when said piston is urged rearwardly for cycling said bolt mechanism, said piston having a front end and a rear end, said front end having a diameter being greater than a diameter of said rear end, said front end receiving gas pressure from said gas tube when said AR-15 rifle is fired thereby urging said piston rearwardly in said well, said rear end striking said bolt mechanism when said piston is urged rearwardly in said well for cycling said bolt mechanism, said piston being urged forwardly in said well by said bolt mechanism when said bolt mechanism cycles.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
