Cap with an Interchangable or Removable Visor
Abstract
Described herein are caps and headwear articles that include a crown with an annular base shaped to fit the head of a wearer and an interchangeable or removable visor having a first and second opposing major surfaces. A headwear article can comprise a crown. A first magnetic material can be coupled to a front portion of the crown. A visor can have a shade portion and an upwardly extending lip portion. The shade portion can have a rear edge to which the upwardly extending lip portion is coupled. A second magnetic material can be coupled to the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor. The crown and the visor can be configured to be selectively and releasably coupled to one another through magnetic attraction between the first magnetic material and the second magnetic material.

1 . A headwear article comprising:
a crown having a rear portion and a front portion that cooperate to define a circumference of the crown, the rear portion and the front portion of the crown having respective outer surfaces and respective inner surfaces that cooperate to define a receiving space that is configured to receive a portion of a head of a user; a first magnetic material coupled to the front portion of the crown; a visor having a shade portion and an upwardly extending lip portion, the shade portion having a rear edge to which the upwardly extending lip portion is coupled, the upwardly extending lip portion having a front surface and a rear surface; and a second magnetic material coupled to the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor, wherein at least one of the first magnetic material or the second magnetic material comprises a magnet, wherein the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor has a shape that is complementary to a shape of at least a portion of the front portion of the crown, and wherein the crown and the visor are configured to be selectively and releasably coupled to one another through magnetic attraction between the first magnetic material and the second magnetic material.

The headwear article of claim 1 , wherein the first magnetic material is associated with an inner surface of the front portion of the crown, wherein the second magnetic material is associated with the front surface of the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor, and wherein the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor is configured for complementary receipt within the receiving space of the crown.
3 . The headwear article of claim 1 , wherein the first magnetic material is associated with an outer surface of the front portion of the crown, wherein the second magnetic material is associated with the rear surface of the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor, and wherein the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor has a shape that is complementary to the outer surface of the front portion of the crown.
4 . The headwear article of claim 1 , wherein the first magnetic material is at least partially embedded within the front portion of the crown.
5 . The headwear article of claim 4 , wherein the first magnetic material is completely enclosed within material of the front portion of the crown.
6 . The headwear article of claim 4 , wherein the second magnetic material is at least partially embedded within the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor.
7 . The headwear article of claim 6 , wherein the second magnetic material is completely enclosed within material of the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor.
8 . The headwear article of claim 1 , wherein the first magnetic material comprises a magnet.
9 . The headwear article of claim 8 , wherein the first magnetic material comprises a plurality of magnets.
10 . The headwear article of claim 9 , wherein the second magnetic material comprises a ferromagnetic material.
11 . The headwear article of claim 1 , wherein the second magnetic material comprises a magnet.
12 . The headwear article of claim 11 , wherein the second magnetic material comprises a plurality of magnets.
13 . A method comprising:
positioning a first magnetic material that is coupled to a crown of a headwear article proximate to a second magnetic material that is coupled to a visor of the headwear article to establish a magnetic coupling between the first magnetic material and the second magnetic material, wherein the crown has a rear portion and a front portion that cooperate to define a circumference of the crown, the rear portion and the front portion of the crown having respective outer surfaces and respective inner surfaces that cooperate to define a receiving space that is configured to receive a head of a user, wherein the visor has a shade portion and an upwardly extending lip portion, the shade portion having a rear edge to which the upwardly extending lip portion is coupled, the upwardly extending lip portion having a front surface and a rear surface, wherein the second magnetic material is coupled to the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor, wherein at least one of the first magnetic material or the second magnetic material comprises a magnet.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the first magnetic material comprises a magnet.
15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein each of the first magnetic material and the second magnetic material comprises a magnet.
16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the first magnetic material is associated with an inner surface of the front portion of the crown, wherein the second magnetic material is associated with the front surface of the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor, and wherein the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor is configured for complementary receipt within the receiving space of the crown, wherein positioning the first magnetic material proximate to the second magnetic material comprises positioning the front portion of the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor within the receiving space and against the inner surface of the front portion of the crown.
17 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the first magnetic material is associated with an outer surface of the front portion of the crown, wherein the second magnetic material is associated with the rear surface of the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor, and wherein the upwardly extending lip portion of the visor has a shape that is complementary to the outer surface of the front portion of the crown, wherein positioning the first magnetic material proximate to the second magnetic material comprises positioning the rear surface of the upwardly extending lip portion against the outer surface of the front portion of the crown.
18 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the method does not comprise applying an external force to couple the crown to the visor.
19 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the visor is a first visor, the method further comprising:
decoupling the first visor from the crown; and coupling a second visor to the crown, wherein the second visor has a shade portion and an upwardly extending lip portion, the shade portion having a rear edge to which the upwardly extending lip portion is coupled, the upwardly extending lip portion having a front surface and a rear surface, wherein a third magnetic material is coupled to the upwardly extending lip portion of the second visor, wherein coupling the second visor to the crown comprises positioning the first magnetic material proximate to the third magnetic material.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
